i don't like it.
no more home button, which is a big loss for me and pretty much the reason to choose samsung over other brands. (also because of good rom/kernel support)
the fingerprint sensor is also pretty stupid on the back. if they have to put it on the back then atleast like on the nexus please.
but a combined home button with fingerprint scanner on the front would be even better.
maybe next year again.
other then that, it's pretty good i think.

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of it either. And like freiwald I would like an actual physical home button of sorts.

Huh?!?
Can't you just cancel the subscription and then re-apply for it again to get the new phone (or here just get the phone and change subsciption within the same company)? o.O

it's beautiful, but I hate the glass back. Pointless and easy to break (I know because my phone has it...). Unless the gorilla 5 is actually strong, which I doubt.
Overall, it seems to be a small improvement over the S7, I don't really see the point of it, even though obviously it's a great phone.

Considering S7 scratches even from the official View cover flip case, i would not have high hopes that gorilla glass is now much more durable, seems that you need to keep these high end phones in backpack between two pillows to avoid any scratches. Next phone what i buy, i will install 10 layers of tempered glass screen protectors on it.

I went from (not counting the really old ones) S3, LG G3, and now S7 Edge. No scratches on any of them. I always used flip covers though.
I hope we'll see 1000+ euros smartphones soon, that'll be the day.

well not true, samsung displays are some of the best u can get in a phone, same with camera performance also very good and not to mention the IP class that alone is worth the price of S8.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/here-s-how-much-it-probably-costs-samsung-to-build-your-700-galaxy-s8
Quote: | According to IHS Markit analysts, Samsung is estimated to pay out $301.60 in parts for every one of its Galaxy S8 handsets.
With basic manufacturing costs assumed to be around $5.90, the total production cost per handset, before marketing costs, comes to $307.50, by the analysts' predictions. |
Isn't it outrageous that the manufacturing costs are so low? I mean, it probably includes energy and everything that runs the factory, leaving a few cents for the worker...

the S8 costs around $800. you do realize that a ~$500/166% margin from factory to end user is actually pretty fucking slim once you factor in R&D, marketing and taxes?

Well, it may not be a good margin but it still makes me wonder how much they are paying the people in the assembly line... I imagine working conditions are not great either. But I guess I shouldn't even think about these things, can't change anything anyway...

So will we hit the 2K dollar/euro mark in the next ten years? Who the hell pays such prices for a phone?

I've been with iPhone/iOS since original iPhone and lasted (almost every iteration) until the 6 Plus.
The "touch disease" came at me and something snapped inside me, I was done with iPhone/Apple.
Just picked up a Galaxy Note8, have I made a good decision?

Sweet, thanks for the info. I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase so far.
Do people typically leave the "always on" display going? Is it a significant battery drain?
I'm going to have to get used to the fingerprint thing on the back, kinda' weird but I think I will like it eventually.
I swear I've added the same finger like 4 times and mashed my finger all over it and it still takes 2-3 tries to get it to recognize... Do you find good accuracy with it?
Android noob questions incoming:
Sometimes I clear an app from running with the app switcher thing and like "Close All", but it's still running.. is there a better way to close it?
Why does my notification center tell me over 9000 times that it's connected to my home WiFi? It's connected, I GET IT!
Sometimes notifications are in RED and cannot be cleared, I could care less about the content of it sometimes, and the app it's yelling at me about isn't even OPEN. How do I clear red notifications without addressing what it's whining about?
Anything totally amazing Android things I can do now that I couldn't on iPhone?
