Yeah, question in title.
Me?
Some Guild Wars 2 now and then: 3-4 minutes once a few days.
Wtf happened?
Nothing to play, I am getting too bastardly pretentious, or there's really nothing worth sinking your time in?

FF14. I still need to finish Endwalker at some point. However family and work has me pinned down it's hard to justify subscribing again.

Playing Neverwinterr Online for 2 years now. Used to play it since beta which was back in 2013 but stopped between 2016 and 2021. Yes, it actually had 10 Years Anniversary even which sucked ass, Only came back because after 5+ years they finally added a new class - Bard. It's OK game. The combat is still good, looks simple at first but there are many details that make you excess in a class. But the grind is terrible and the content feels lacking. For new players there is at least 5 months daily grind to be able to play end-game content which is just 2 dungeons (for 5 players party) and about 4 trials (for 10 players). Which really sounds dumb for such long lasting MMO.... Some may wonder how it's not dead yet but there are about 2-3k players peak per day which is probably enough to keep it afloat. No idea how many people work on the game, guess around 20.

Read a while ago that LOTRO also is/was going 'on' with only a handful of people providing maintenance.

LotRO just had 16th Anniversary too. Used to play it some 4-5 years ago and still have it installed but all I do is just login once per day for the dumb hobbit gifts. Well, mostly not to get kicked from the guilds in case I want to play again. But it has a lot more content than NWO and playerbase is probably bigger too. Even just to walk around all Middle-Earth places is worth it. It's huge and has every zone from Ered-Luin to Mordor. But now they are in a situation where very few new things can be added. Last update is for Cardolan - small new leveling zone south of Bree. And story is currently at the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen. After that nobody knows what will happen. Could only be new "small threats" in Rhun and refreshing old zones.
Here's the latest map:

I played for some weeks LOTRO and one could see that there was a lot of love put into the game.
Sadly, the visuals / graphics and some archaic systems didn't resonate with me.

I struggle finishing any game to begin with, I can't realistically get into a MMO (would have given a shot to Eve Online otherwise though, this game seems like what a MMO ought to be, aka an actual persistent universe) |
Ah, ducking Lineage II. That was the first MMO I played (the internet here was terrible before that and basically useless for online playing aside from online browser games such as Time Hunter RPG and TDZK). Friends (more like fremenies!) told me to join them in LII and play support. "It will be fun, we will give you best gear since start!" - they said. So I made some support class character, leveled it up and in just few days I was ready to do endgame raids or whatever it was. THAT was when I realized why NOBODY wanted to play support in Lineage!!! Literally all you do is apply some 10 mins (or was longer?) buffs and do nothing else until the big boys all do the playing.... Most boring gameplay I've ever seen even until this day!
EVE Online is decent. I played that one too for about 3 months while I had free PLEX (was few years before they made it f2p). Had some (relatively small) nice corp vs corp battles with 100 players. But I was mainly a solo wormhole explorer which was pretty dangerous but manageable when careful and made good credits out of it. Dramas in that game could go very long and juicy too. Don't know if the Goons are still in the game. Some of the higher-ups went, or wanted to if it was released, to Star Citizen. The Mittani, the biggest drama queen and troll of all online gaming, left last year, as far as I read somewhere.

What needs to be done is making everything until endgame soloable.

Could you do dungeons etc? And do zone stories end with regular quests or final quests in dungeons?

All story can be done 100% alone. The dungeons/raids are a conclusion of some story books but you don't have to do them to proceed. Once you start the next page you understand if an NPC died during that. The only problem with LotRO is unlocking next story if you try to be completely F2P but I think most if not all zones up until Rohan are free now. That's around lvl 90 with current max llvl being 140.
