Well, he's right, Steam and GFWL are the biggest services.

No, he said microsoft has best service Smile if he said Steam, then yeah sure. But Microsoft? Who likes GFW? I only like that many of the games natively support 360 pad. But what about saves? I have to use xliveless dll in GTA otherwise saves are stored who knows where. So basically only thing I like about GFW is that most of their games support 360 pads natively.

I don't think so. He says "...and there's Valve, and there's Microsoft, and they don't really have anything to worry about, they have the best service. And if they open I actually think that their business will be more benefited...."

I understand he means that both Valve and Microsoft have the best service, and this is why he wants them to both open up.

But they do. What other gaming service lets you play multiple games for the price of one very cheap game? Or in the case of most NFOHumpers, a free game thanks to a fuck up by Sega.

Yeah well I don't have a key, so not so for me. Besides there are cracks for every GFW title I reckon, so it's n big deal. And there aren't many worthwhile games you could use the key for multiplayer.

I like standalone games, like in old times. I don't like Steam or GFW, but if I had to choose I'd definitely choose Steam over any other similar platform.

About Steam and GFWL being open services. So that there aren't Steam exclusive and GFWL exclusive games, also for example the guy that owns the game from Steam can chat with the guy that owns the GFWL copy, etc.

For the first time I think, what Pitchford says makes sense to me Very Happy

Gearbox has called on Microsoft and Valve to fix the incompatibility between titles purchased via Games For Windows and Steam.

The studio, which is readying PC gaming favourite Duke Nukem Forever for release on the format next year, claims that Steam and Microsoft are "building silos" which ultimately "hurt the PC industry".

"[We] want people to be able to play together and right now if a guy buys a game on Games for Windows and a guy buys a game on Steam - they can't play together," Gearbox's head of marketing Steve Gibson said at London Games Festival. "If another guy bought it in a retail store, he can't play with the first two guys."

Gibson called on Microsoft and Steam to work out a way where purchasers of their games could play simultaneously.

"Right now we're like 'Please, work together'," he said. "Our big concern right now is that these silos are being built. Everybody's separating out and it's really... as a developer who just wants gamers to be able to play games together, it's frustrating right now. Things like that are hurting the PC industry for gamers. This is frustrating for everybody right now."

Gibson asked gamers to put pressure on Steam and Microsoft to "play nice!".

I am not sure what he means, that players can't play between versions? That's the exception, not the rule! Confused

He's explaining himself: http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=24220125

Quote:
going through the thread in regards to that bit of a conversation i had in london i figure i'll just make my hope perfectly clear.

in an ideal world all of the digital distributors and retail solutions be it steam, d2d, gfwl, gamespy, etc. would be using an open unified match making standard for online multiplayer. i wont hold my breath that it would happen, but it's a hope.

the quote is missing the word "sometimes" in regards to a retail guy sometimes not being able to play with one of the other 2 major online choices.

i use steam and have loved it and written about it for years. it is by far my personal favorite among the online choices. (...)

in regards to duke forever being available online and match making etc, we have not made any announcements yet. i imagine you guys will be happy though.

i think that about covers it.

He gave some examples:

Quote:
steam friends list is separate from your gfwl friends list. etc.

master server and authentication standards for non-dedicated servers.

it can be managed and worked around but it's all a bit of a mess.

What a dumbass comment. There are many more out there 100x more guilty of this. Just compare GOW/COD/so on to Borderlands on pc and even you will realize this.

And did you even listen to the interview? He wants platforms on the pc to work together instead of dividing pc gamers. What the fuck is wrong with that?

Systems of content delivery like Steam and G4WL are the future of pc-gaming, like it or not. And personally, I don't want every publisher coming out with their own platform so I need to have 20 different platforms that have no interoperability whatsoever.

Anyways perhaps think before you blurt out some smartass comment or at least qualify it with some semi-intelligent statement? I know the internet with its anonymity makes having a little respect for another human being hard, but try next time, huh?

From the translation I got these things:

Pitchford talks about CoD. He likes it for what it is, but he's not a hardcore player. He believes it's easy to attract the younger generation who have no prior gaming experience and it feels fresh to them. He criticizes IW for making only CoD games. He believes the game sells so good because it's a very good game for the casual player to start playing, same as their own Borderlands game and Halo and Gears of War.

Finally he says Activision asked him to make a CoD title but he declined the offer because making the same thing over and over, there's no challenge in that.

Quote:
Andre: Would you want to make a "Call of Duty"? If Activision came to you and said, "Hey, we'll do it with three development studios, instead of two!", What would you say?

Randy Pitchford: In fact, they were already there.

Andre: Really? And you've actually turned down?

Randy Pitchford: Yeah, that's not for me.

Andre: Why?

Randy Pitchford: I did not know what there was to reach there. For me, there are two scenarios in which a project makes sense for Gearbox: First, if there would have been the game without us ever. Or two, when we can contribute to an existing brand something new, a kind of unique perspective and a new approach. But that was not the case here. I think about the people delivering the "Call of Duty", which they want, you have to play by the rules of the series. You have to do what is expected of a "Call of Duty". In this I see but no real challenge for us. It would strengthen our reputation as a studio no further, it would not be really motivating for our team.
