Dang it... I've finally ran an ethernet cable through the apartment and finally have very good speeds on my pc but the router drops dead once or twice a day...

And that is even on wired connection. I've updated to latest firmware etc.
When it drops out, I cannot even connect to it to reboot it and have to do it manually.

It is connected to modem with cat6 cable for which I've made new plugs and that did not helped

The stupid think is tp link WR1043ND
I am certain it's the device fault... because i can't even access it with it's ip.
But the next time it drops out, I will try connecting pc to isp modem to check just to be sure

so what exactly fucks around? the external modem? only the wired connection to your pc (and wifi for example on your mobile still working)? or the router itself (which isnt a router in that case but more like a switch + access point; but that doenst matter)?

The damn thing just dies. I mean it still flashes it's funny light around and so on but it user interface cannot be accessed anymore (wired or not)

Maybe I should try installing gargoyle ?

either your connection gets attacked, the router is damaged or maybe its really the power supply. have something lying aroung which fits the power socket type and voltage?

to exclude variant a (or lets say narrow it down to the router) -> possible to connect your pc directly to the modem? yes you loose your wifi during that test, if you need it plugin your old wlan stick and use virtualrouter (or the command prompt) to config that stick as access point for your mobile devices

ok UPDATE:
It died again (again after playing re7 demo Laughing)

What I found out:
-connection wired between pc and router stops working. I can even access router
-Wireless with smartphone works and have good speeds
-directly modem to pc WORKS and with full speed.

edit:After trying modem to pc... the router to pc started working again. Without restarting router. So just disconnecting router from modem helped... hmmm

No eco mode on router or anything. Restarting pc dont help.

But if its the wan1 port in router dying, then how disconnecting cable on modem side helps... Without touching the router.
Its not overheating. Router stays near window

Some conflict between your modem and router configs perhaps?

if it was conflict between modem and router, then it wouldn't it also affect wireless connections? but those work fine... and its just wired out ports that are affected.

For now Resident Evil 7 demo is sure to break my ethernet Laughing
5 minutes and its gone... I have to either restart router or reconnect wan.

It's like my pc is initializing "SHUT DOWN THE LAN PORTS PROTOCOL" in some situations...
I might try that gargoyle software tomorrow if You guys won't think of anything better.
Except if gargoyle might be a bad idea?

maybe your dhcp is running amok.

set a static ip for your network adapter and see what happens

I've tried that but not sure what IP to enter as static.
One thing I did was disabled DHCP server in tp link settings but that did not helped.

It's starting to sound like hardware/firmware failure more than anything else.

I know what I should do next. When it dies again, I will try connnecting laptop wired.
I know that wireless works but wired connection to my pc dies... so let's see if wired connection to other device works

ehm just enter a ip in the same range? Wink

type ipconfig /all into the dash.
look what it is said for gateway, will be something like 192.168.0.1

the third digit might be 1 or 2. just check that. and then go to the network settings and enter any number between 2 and 255 as fourth number (means 192.168.x.2-255). dns and standardgateway 192.168.x.1

Ok might try this tomorrow. I suspect it wont work since static ip is somehow a premium with my isp

He meant the network adapter of your machine within your local network. Meaning the ip address your router is supposed to assign to your machine, not the ip address assigned to your internet connection by your isp. The latter is indeed something special.

V1 versions(white case) had buggy wlan chips. Wifi just drops connection. I have two of these. One still works flawless with openwrt.
One time had similar not responding kinda problems, tested with different ISP and it worked fine, so complained to my ISP and it all went away.

dunno exactly how his connection works but the modem will have not dhcp, he can only use the internet atm with disabled dhcp in his router cause the lease is still valid

as its only the lan port -> either the router fucks up, the cable fucks up or his network adapter fucks up. as first try as i said i would set a static ip

he needs the router cause he wants to use more than one device and wifi devices with his connection? Wink

it was a long time kinda common atleast here in germany for cable connections that they had not used routers with integrated modems and only delivered a modem with the contract so that you a) either only could used that for direct connection on one pc or buy a overpriced shit router from them to have more ports + wifi or use your own router

yeah. my isp only delivered me a cable and modem with one rj45 output.

And since I want my pc connected wired and smartphones/laptops with wifi, router was the best option? And I already had that 1043nd from my parents home since I moved... I bought flat in new building (building just finished 4 months ago and I moved in 3 months ago)...
So there is fiber going into the building but then it's routed to homes with cat6.... so what was their point to even do fiber in first place Laughing

anyway back to the topic. They said "Your internet is dynamic ip. Static is premium option You can get if You pay more. Here, take this modem"
The guys installed modem and that's all. They did so shitty job with cat6 plugs to modem that I had to cut this shit and crimp my own plugs

Yes. But that router is detecting connection from modem as "Dynamic IP" and sets itself for this.
So isp is dynamicaly switching ip on their side and my router is doing it again?
I just think that dhcp on router is giving ip from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199 to it's clients (my devices) and it has nothing to do with dynamic ip provided by my isp.

Besides, why would it break on wired and still work on wireless? It should apply to all means of connection.
btw. I've not been on pc too much it it was stable today... somehow yesterday it only broken EVERY time after I exited resident evil 7 demo. And I am not using lan drivers. Just using what win10 installed itself. Maybe cause is there ?

Fuck this.. I've finished 3 cisco final exams and I still never fully understood this crap Crying or Very sad
