Anybody remembers this gem? I recently found an old CD with this awesome turn-based tactical game.
It has true turn-based combat, soldier leveling and customization, really good level design (late game missions are somewhat puzzle-like due to overwhelming odds - even more so in the add-on).
I especially liked the Wilderness Missions (until the introduction of the mind-control laser) - all the missions have this Starship troopers feel with hordes of enemies swarming all around you and your squad barely keeping them at bay while completing the objectives.
The game is available on GOG and works well with the glide wrapper.

I remember it very well, loved it back then. Great creepy atmosphere and very good tatical and upgrading system plus you had that x-com feeling of getting attached to your soldiers. The story was not bad either if you like scifi. Finished it 3 or 4 times, it was that good.
Dont think i played the wilderness missions though.

It was a fun game but one that became very hard after a while. It ended up being a bit of a puzzle game because most later maps required you to plan every step ahead to avoid getting swamped by nasties. It was also notoriously random with its hits & misses - one round you could kill 4 nasties and barely get any damage, another reload would see you kill zero and have two of your own killed. Still, very underrated but a game that could have used some tweaking on a sequel that never came.

Yeah, it was pretty good - but it suffered from the same problem as the new X-Com does, which is that they limit your tactical options by severely reducing your possible actions.
In that way, it feels more like a simplistic board game - than a rich tactical experience.
I know some people prefer that, but I much prefer something like the original X-Com or Jagged Alliance.

On the original jagged alliance or x-com you could very well miss the shot even with 99%, too. On the later levels you should have all your soldiers upgraded to max with best armour available, and yet the best strategy was figuring ways to not be hit. The ambiance was opressive and allways on edge, was very good indeed. I remember i had a 3dFx voodoo banshee card back then, then some time later had to buy a geforce for Unreal
