Hey guys,
Saw the "big japan" sale on the psn store, and they have yakuza 0 and kiwami on sale.
Is it worth to dive into the franchise ?
Saw there is up until yakuza 6! right now.

Thanks
Very Happy

You can try Yakuza 6 demo and see if you like the gameplay.

I only tried Yakuza 3 and 4 on PS3, loved the setting and story but the combat was bad imo.

It's not GTA/Sleeping dogs kind of game, you don't drive cars or have guns.

Yakuza 0 and kiwami are awesome.

It's Japanese game set in japan, so if you're you a problem with their culture, you might not enjoy the game. I gave it a try and liked every moment. Going to get Yakuza 6 soon.

I love the 80's setting of Yakuza 0. Bought it on sale as well. While fighting games are not my favorite genre, the setting makes up for it.

You might love it, you might hate it. I would save the PSN deals for games that you pretty much know you'll love.

Get this on physical disc somewhere cheap and at least you can trade it in for some of your cash if you don't like it.

Yakuza 0 is awesome, it has one of the most memorable stories and characters of the past few years of gaming.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Yakuza 0 is an absolutely brilliant game. There is no better place to start with the series than with that game. I have sunk in at least 178 hours into it and still keep going back quite a lot.

Yes it's worth it, but do note that the combat shouldn't be your only draw into the game because it can get repetitive. The minigames, "drama", and humor should also be something you are interested in. Plot is never the best most of the time, it's very Japanese writing, and some minigames have a certain polish, while others are just a funny novelty thing you would probably only try a handful of times. It's the characters and the humor that does it for me to be honest, and the blood pumping OST.

Most substories are hilarious especially if you fudge the responses, but they basically devolve into beating up somebody.

I would play Kiwami before 0, mostly because Kiwami establishes characters if you're new to the series, and it's a remake that while it has new features, is still not as plenty as 0, so you might feel it's a bit lacking if you start with 0. Though that's just my take, but I do feel it should be the sequence to play. I started with the original PS2 games back in the day, and so to me, knowing the characters, 0 was made even more impactful.

I'm currently replaying 3, having dusted off my PS3, and once that is done I will be dong 4 and 5, and then replaying 0, which should be enough time until Kiwami 2 this August.

I would save Yakuza 6 for last, it has the worst combat of the PS4 games especially if you try the demo because they don't have the speed upgrade so you might end up thinking it's gonna be slow as hell.

There's a lot of flaws, but there's something about the various elements coming together that just makes me love the series. Yakuza is pretty much what my PS3 was for with the games, outside Persona, being the only ones I played to completion.
