I saw this back when Bester first posted it, but the evidence for it is pretty tenuous to say the least.
That aside, I hope if it turns out to be true that it is just BG3 in name only. That story is done, and I don't want to see it dredged up and raped further. If it is just a fantasy RPG that takes place on the Sword Coast then I am fine with that. I'm not sure what Larian would put out narrative-wise, but at least it is likely to be turn-based.

They can call it Baldursgate and make it about some alt-right human conspiracy against the poor oppressed Drows.

God, I would kill for a proper JA3, even if JA2+1.13 is still a masterpiece.
Like DCB said, the child of Baal saga is done, but a new story in this universe would be fantastic. Also, bring back 2.5D, it works waaayyy better for these kind of games IMO.

Larian already denied the rumors that they're working on the game. Someone claimed they had bought the rights to Baldur's gate, they said that's false and they're focusing on their own stuff.
Interestingly enough, Beamdog also said they're not working on BG3. I would have seen them as the most likely candidate since they're still working on the older games. They even worked together with WotC to release voice packs + portraits of new characters based on a weekly live DnD game WotC is running on Twitch.
Clearly they must go with the best studio possible: Bioware.

It's Ubisoft, they got the RPG bug with Odyssey.

Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Realms.
Level your way to a level 20 rogue (Assassin archetype) in this third-person action rpg.

They wanted to, but I gather they have lost their chance. I am guessing that WotC (wisely) told them they had to first audition by successfully developing and releasing their own full game before they'd approve a BG3. But that project ended up being scrapped, and Gaider quit (or was let go), so I would think they are done. They are reduced to grovelling for scraps to keep the doors open, like your Twitch example.

I'm glad even in rumours t's probably maybe not Beamdog.
I'm against halfbreeds in FR so I want to mount half-orc heads on my wall, not be mounted against a wall by a half-orc who wants head.

This. Pillars feels so lifeless, like someone (I blame Josh Sawyer had a checklist, went with it and never thought "will be this fun to play".

This, again. To put it simply Pathfinder is amazing, from the start it feels like a labour of love. Yes, it's based on existing property, but it just has this unmistakeable aura about it.
Of course Avellone might be bitter because he was screwed by Obsidian, but I agree with his opinions.

Avellone is bitter, but he has every right to be. I don't even know how a founder/partner got his stake revoked, but I'm no business guy.
Anyway, I don't get why they didn't make him head for Pillars. If he was in charge, the games wouldn't have been so bland. He understands that RPGs just aren't about combat mechanics. Story and player interaction with the world is what matters.
It's why I could never get into the Icewind Dales. Too much combat, so little player interaction with the world.
