probably poorly marketted.. i mean kids, cgi, spielberg.. it should have been a reliable performer.
perhaps it was a little too dark for the kiddies given how delicate they're becoming these days? i find it surprising that such a, uhh... experienced? filmmaker would make a really rubbish film out of such a good book.
I think the big reason for the box office bomb was the title. A lot of people said it should have been called something else but it was faithful to the book of the same name and I had read the book a long time ago
Doesn't help that Finding Dory was breaking records in the theaters when BFG opened. Families chose Dory.
