Based on "The BFG" (Big Friendly Giant) children's book by Roald Dahl.

Script: Melissa Mathison (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial)
Director: Steven Spielberg
Music: motherfucking John Williams
Cinematography: Janusz Kamiński, Spielberg's go to guy

Plot:

Quote:
Newcomer Ruby Barnhill plays Sophie, an imaginative little girl who befriends the BFG. Unfortunately, she soon discovers, other giants are not very much like the BFG, but rather vicious creatures like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement). So Sophie and the BFG team up to warn the Queen of England (Penelope Wilton) of the coming giant crisis.

Trailer:

Visuals are great, will watch.

This has been a spectacular box office bomb.

probably poorly marketted.. i mean kids, cgi, spielberg.. it should have been a reliable performer.

perhaps it was a little too dark for the kiddies given how delicate they're becoming these days? i find it surprising that such a, uhh... experienced? filmmaker would make a really rubbish film out of such a good book.

I think the big reason for the box office bomb was the title. A lot of people said it should have been called something else but it was faithful to the book of the same name and I had read the book a long time ago Smile

Doesn't help that Finding Dory was breaking records in the theaters when BFG opened. Families chose Dory.

I took my daughter to Finding Dory 3D and then an hour later we watched The BFG. Both were good though Smile
