J.J. Abrams tricked us again. The movie, which Abrams calls "a blood relative of Cloverfield", has already been made(!) and releases in a couple of months(!!).
Starring:
John Goodman
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
John Gallagher Jr.
Written by:
Josh Campbell & Matthew Stuecken (nothing of interest in their filmography as writers as far as I can see).
edit: rewrites by: Damien Chazelle, writer and director of Whiplash
Directed by:
Dan Trachenberg, in his directorial debut, aka the guy behind:
The movie's script was called The Cellar and was in production under the codename Valencia.
The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.
I like the cast, I like Cloverfield and I like the premise. Bring it on!
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."

Man, I loved Cloverfield and this short clip hyped me and I already regret seeing it. It feels as if I shouldn't have seen her escape... FUCK YEAH COME MARCH,COME!

So basically it's a thriller about a crazy John Goodman in a bunker and the only connection to Cloverfield that we can hope for is them showing something monster-related at the end when she escapes? That's... not the Cloverfield sequel I wanted or expected. Unless the bunker stuff takes place during the first 10 minutes and then it turns into something totally different (which would also explain why they showed the entire movie in the trailer), but seems unlikely even for JJ to have managed to film something like that in complete secret. I mean it still looks like an interesting thriller, I just don't see how slapping the Cloverfield name on it could bring anything but disappointment to the people who are expecting a proper sequel.

This.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

I read the old script which wasn't conceived to be tied in to Cloverfield and has since received rewrites. I'll tell you which of your two theories was correct in that incarnation:
Spoiler:
The first. It all takes place in the bunker, she escapes, turns out he was telling the truth, the end. But keep in mind there have been rewrites and:
This is going to get an IMAX release so expect some spectacle. Maybe not too much - the original movie was very constrained anyway - but there should be at least some. I don't know of any dramas with no spectacle at all that get an IMAX release. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
(Only read if you read the previous spoiler:)
Spoiler:
I expect the third act to have been rewritten and the whole third act will take place in the outside with the monster or what they have cooked up.
Finally to comment on the writing, I'd say the lines are pretty good! And the cast is good so I'm sure they will deliver them well.

Same here, although it may catch my interest, but as for a tied movie to "Cloverfield" it's nothing really spectacular, the original movie gave so many great possibilities, especially because most of what happened could easily be turned and twisted since the camera doesn't see every bit.
actually it could be even the same city the same monsters and everything and just out of a differnent view. like a military guy or so. i still would be much more interested then in this
"Are you serious that JJ, the man that made so MUCH money from SW, will make a $5M movie? I think not!"
How does that even compute?!
Not only has Abrams not directed this.
But also the success of SW has no bearing on him producing low budget films.
And finally the movie wrapped production 1 year ago so what does it matter that SW is breaking records right now???
WTF am I reading?!

Idiocy on the interwebs.
I have to say I saw some pretty daft things being said about this trailer/cloverfield. A lot of fans seem to be missing the spinoff mention soooo I'm afraid this has all the signs of it bombing (not for me though, I'm just glad I'm getting something cloverfield'ish).
^ what he said. Stupid things I found on the interwebs.

Just found out that the movie opens almost a month later in Russia, which is guaranteed to ruin any surprises unless I go into full blackout mode Kinda disappointing, since the new trailers definitely show signs of it being something more than "The Cellar with Cloverfield sprinkles".
If what I heard is true (can't say more) it's still only some sprinkles.
