The whole promotion was a worthless sham to garner referrer clicks and harvest e-mail addresses of those who signed up for the "free" day. None of the sites offered any free content unless you signed up with an e-mail address etc.
Just one big giant lie, as is par for the course in the industry. Not sure why anyone was surprised.
