Hmmm I have heard that the Atrac format for the PSP is way better then MP3 when it comes to size... So the question remains... How do I convert the MP3's into Atrac?

I have tried to convert 'em with sonicstage but it doesnt support mp3 conversion Sad

?? Sonicstage is the New stuff that comes with a Sony NET Minidisc player isnt it??

I use OpenMG Jukebox which came with my NET Mini Disc player and it converts MP3's into Atrac perfectly.

From the official psp webpage someone posted sonic stage 3.1 is out and it will do mp3s.

ps. sonic stage 3 may not be able to create mp3s but it can convert mp3s to atrac

keep in mind atrac files do not work on Memory Stick Pro DUO, so if your buying any card over 128 mb i would suggest you stick to mp3

Improvements of SonicStage Ver. 3.1 Upgrade Program :

1. Ripping Audio CD into MP3 format with the following settings:
- Format: MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3
- Bit rate: 320kbps/256kbps/224kbps/192kbps/160kbps/128kbps/112kbps/96kbps
- Sampling frequency: 44.1kHz

2. Tracks recorded from microphone or analog inputs on Hi-MD devices can be uploaded to SonicStage and saved in WAV (PCM)format.

3. The availability of new functions such as Create an ATRAC CD, Create an Audio CD and Create an MP3 CD.

4. Tracks can be converted at a specified bit rate and transferred to other audio devices or media.

5. SonicStage launches automatically when an ATRAC Audio Device (e.g. ATRAC HDD) is connected to the computer via USB.

6. Tracks in My Library are easier to manage. The enhancements includes:
- Shows additional track information such as released year and composer
- Option to to add or delete by right clicking on the index list (e.g. Artist, Genre, Track Length)
- Re-order index with the drag and drop functionality

7. Album or track editing feature has been renamed to Playlist (previously, “My Compilation Album).

8. An unlimited number of track in My Library can be selected for transfer to other audio devices or media.

9. Functionality to connect to CDDB (A distributed network CD database that contains information about most audio CDs in circulation) is available.

Note:
1. In SonicStage Ver.3.0 or later, tracks stored in albums in My Library are automatically sorted, based on the artist name and album name* registered to each track. Because of this revision, if you have been using an earlier version of SonicStage (Ver. 2.3 or earlier), the structure of the albums stored in My Library may change when upgrading to SonicStage Ver. 3.1.

For example, if the album name* registered to a track with SonicStage Ver. 2.3 or earlier was "No title," it may be sorted into a new album for all tracks with an album name of "No title."

*For the details, refer to the Help [For Users of Earlier Version of SonicStage]-[Album Revision], after the upgrade completes.
*Album name is called "Source" in SonicStage Ver.2.x.

2. The default setting of CD Recording Format is ATRAC3plus 64kbps.

3. When upgrading from SonicStage or OpenMG Jukebox, previous version of these programs will be overwritten.

4. When upgrading from SonicStage Simple Burner Ver.1.0/1.1, SonicStage Simple Burner Ver.1.0/1.1 functionality will be installed additionally onto SonicStage Ver. 3.1.

5. The functions of EQ (Equalizer), Effect (Vocal Canceller), Visualizer, recording by WMA, an audio CD direct ripping to connected portable devices with computer, CD back up function, Recording from CD by OpenMG Audio(PCM) file format and analyzer display (level meter, spectrum, waveform) are eliminated.

6. Function of creating an MP3 CD is only available from MP3 files in My Library. SonicStage is not able to convert OpenMG Audio files (e.g. ATRAC3plus) to MP3 files and create an MP3 CD.

7. Track information such as music title, artist name, genre, album title on copy protected discs being released by Sony Music Entertainment Inc. that are copied to the computer are not allowed to be edited.

i put my mp3 library into sonic stage 3.0
when you right click on the mp3 theres an option called convert format
then it will give you a choice to convert to atrac or atrac3...

Note** if ypou want to use atrac files on the psp you will have to let sonic stage put it on...

You can set it up so it will convert it as it transfers it to the psp

This folder is used to store your music files (either mp3 or ATRAC3plus™). You can add sub-directories to sort by album or genre, or leave the files in the parent Music directory. You can only go one level deep with subdirectories.

You can also place a playlist in this directory and/or the sub-directories. A plain text file with the extension .m3u serves as the playlist, and simply contains the filenames of your music files, in the order you want them to play.

Um you misunderstand... Sonic Stage does work with the non pro cards
but all cards above 128mb is pro
sony themselves admit there is a compatibility problem between Sonic Stage and MS Pro duo cards
hence why it doesnt work for them at this time... it even states in the psp manual that this is the case....

no doubt the card you ordered is a 512mb making it a MS PRO DUO as there is no Memory Stick Duo at that size as you can only get up to 128mb

hmmm I see. Though this was a solution If I needed to get more songs on the included 32 mb card. Since I thought Atrac was smaller in filesize...
