Prowl the disease ridden streets in Vampyr – a darkly atmospheric action RPG from the studio behind Remember Me and Life is Strange, developed using Unreal Engine 4. Set in early 20th century Britain during a bout of the lethal Spanish flu, the streets of London are crippled by disease, violence, and fear. In a completely disorganized and ghostly city, those who are either fools, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the Vampires. Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakes; as the player you determine how to harness your new powers, by specializing in deadly, versatile RPG skill trees that change the way you play. As a doctor recently turned into a Vampire, you try to understand your new affliction. Your quest of intuition, discoveries, and struggles will be filled with death and drama as you attempt to stem the irrepressible thirst that constantly drives you to take human lives. As you cling to what remains of your humanity, your decisions will ultimately shape the fate of your hero while searching for answers in the coughing, foggy aftermath of the Spanish Flu.
Features:

Dontnod (Life is Strange) and Focus Home Interactive announced today that Vampyr is launching in November 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s priced at $59.99 USD, and pre-ordering gets you The Hunters Heirlooms DLC, which includes Dragonbane, the sword of Paulinus Aurelianus, Barker, the pistol of Carl Eldritch, and a Dark Physician Suit.
During E3 2017, 45 minutes of new Vampyr gameplay will be revealed.
Originally slated to release in November, Vampyr, the highly anticipated game from DontNod, the creators of Life is Strange, has been delayed into Spring 2018 due to technical issues that hung up the game’s development.
Overall I can say I’m not disappointed and am rather enjoying Vampyr after having played the game for about 6 hours and made it to chapter 3.
As the publisher is Focus Interactive, it’s more a of a AA game rather than a AAA game which I expected given their previous titles.
As the developer is Dontnod Entertainment I would say it is reminiscent of Life is Strange with Bloodborne-esque combat.
The main character is likeable and the voice acting is decent and features dialogue heavy interactions with multiple NPCs and branching conversations and choices made have consequences that lead to various outcomes.
At the moment I’m sticking to the playing the game as a nice individual with pleasant responses and choosing not to drink everyone dry but the opportunity is there to be the opposite and I look forward to it on the 2nd playthrough with New Game Plus which I think it has.
The night time London visuals reminds me of Bloodborne and combat isn’t quite as deep but feels similar with main and offhand weapons.
The game has a crafting system used to upgrade weapons and create serums to increase health and stamina levels as well as concocting treatments for NPCs.
I’m playing on PS4 Pro and I’m pretty sure there is no 4K HDR or even any enhancements that I am aware of unfortunately and if there are I don’t know what they are.
I’ve had a few very minor framerate issues and audio seems to cut out during the initial title screen but that’s no bother.
Loading times are annoying however with times taking an average of 30 seconds upon death or transitioning between areas and it would be nice if the game flagged up with a message warning the player they are about to leave the area.
The player cannot jump but is able to teleport above and below levels which is kinda cool.
I think a crouch button would be beneficial in order to enhance stealth play as it seems odd trying to play stealthily without being able to crouch.
There seems to be a number of collectibles, activities and side quests but I’ve been focusing on the story so far and as such I’m sure there is much more to the game that I can comment on once I have played it more.
I’d say it was an 8/10 game so I’m guessing the reviews will be 7 or 8 on average.
Vampyr is a cinematic, single-player experience well worth your time and money. A harrowing adventure await those who are willing to sink their time into Vampyr.
Thanks for the mini review. Might leech the iso demo then to see it in person.
Not sure about the 30 fps thingie though on PS4 Pro, they could have done some efforts...
Dontnod Entertainment’s action role-playing game “Vampyr” is getting two new difficulty modes this summer, publisher Focus Home Interactive announced Friday.
The Story mode will de-emphasize combat and focus more on the game’s narrative, which revolves around a doctor-turned-vampire in early 20th century London. Meanwhile, the all-new Hard mode cranks up the challenge. Players will get less experience from killing enemies too, forcing them to rely even more on draining citizens to gain power.
We have a surprise for you... A Vampyr patch just went LIVE! 🦇
With enhanced game performance on next-gen consoles, you can now visit plague-ridden Victorian London in up to 1440p and 60 FPS! Will you save its citizens or feed on those you vowed to heal? 🩸
Noice.
I played this day one on PS4. It was a decent game but I got bored before the end. I seem to remember it was patched to improve the combat since it released.
Might give it another go in 60fps
