Some gaffer with a proven history of revealing insider stuff from Ubisoft says one of his sources told him: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1263153

Quote:
Regarding other games, I haven't been involved with Steep or Wildlands, but I was surprised Splinter Cell didn't appear at E3. I know Ironside is back. He was in the studio, I said Hi to him and his daughter. He was shooting a movie with Amy Jo Johnson, and I know someone who worked on that set and Ironside confirmed to him he was doing the new Splinter Cell. I know Toronto has the mocap studio for it.I'm hoping to hear or see something unofficial, if not official, this year, but its been hard to get anything beyond "It's Happening".

Quote:
To throw a date on this: I did see Ironside and one his daughters at the TO studio last summer. This was just good timing, as I was there on other business.
I have two sources who worked on the set of The Space Between (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4682922/), which was shooting in TO. Ironside mentioned he was working on a new Splinter Cell. One source is someone I trust, the other is an acquaintance by degrees.

The movie shoot overlapped the same week as my encounter. As I understand it, he was here for the movie first and worked in the studio visit while in town.
None of us is bound by NDA over this, given our connections and circumstances, but it still feels shady to talk about since it's not official. I was surprised I hadn't seen this news from someone else by now, to be honest.
I know UbiSoft TO has a wonderful new mocap studio.
While I did express disappointment it wasn't shown at E3, this thing could be early along. I haven't seen actual in-game assets or production assets for myself (like the Syndicate extra timeline story). I don't know who is making it. I know other dev studios have used the mocap studio.
Remember Ubisoft studios collaborate often. The TO studio contributed content to Watch_Dogs 2, and For Honor also takes up a chunk there. I'd like to say this was another TO take on the franchise, but I will not until I know more.

I was typing this thread on my phone (copying and pasting from gaf and all) but I pressed back by accident Crying or Very sad

Anyway, my take on this? Three possibilities :

1. Ironside is just there as a consultant for the new guy, like in Blacklist, and won't actually be in the game (most probable)
2. They will turn Fisher into a Lambert-like figure, Fisher will be voiced by Ironside and we'll be playing as a new agent (pretty probable as well)
3. Ironside will again be Sam Fisher (doubt it)

Having said that, after excellent Blacklist I'm looking forward to this and am pretty excited. Very Happy

I saw this earlier. I welcome the return of the one true Fisher, master of shadows and lights, but I'm afraid of what Ubisoft have done to him to make him appeal to today's crowd.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

This is very likely indeed.

OR they are remaking one of the earlier ones, and needed Ironside for some extra voice work?

Oh man that would be fantastic. Maybe a calmer Splinter Cell with more stealth mechanics and Ironside can be easily back. That would be fantastic!

So Much Win AH so AWESOME if this news is true.I miss Splinter Cell.

They can make such a great game considering the events that are happening around the world.
They just need to put in practice.
Want something like SP1/3,
They have so many locations to explore and events.
So many countries like Russia/NK/China,MIddleEast, involvement in hacking,corruption....so much, just don't be lazy UBI Reaction

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. Reaction

"Excellent Blacklist"

I know you liked Blacklist but it hurts me every time you say it Sad

I think I'm the only one here who's hoping this is just a rumor and that there isn't a new Splinter Cell coming, with or without Ironside.

I'm not the only one (here or anywhere, really) who thought Blacklist was great. Wink

Sure, it wasn't as good as CT, but you can beat the whole game without killing or KOing anyone. That's pretty good IMO.

Still better than Bethesda's way of

Really dumbed down modern version comes out > Yay!

Even more dumbed down modern version comes out > Yay!

Seriously though, I don't think I ever got your gripes with Blacklist. We can all agree Conviction was shit, but Blacklist improved upon it massively. As I said previously, you can finish the game without killing/KOing anyone. There are multiple paths in each level. Hell, even Grim took back her original voice-in-the-ear position. Hell, the coop campaign is really good as well!

The only thing I miss is the funny interrogations and conversations that were always the high point of the series.

That, and Ironside, of course.

Was about to write a lengthy post explaining what felt wrong with Blacklist and then Inter beat me too it. Very Happy

I'd just like to add that Grim was completely ruined. Acted completely out of character.

I wonder how it came to be that Bethesda games have to be pitted against any game I take issue with, even when they're completely unrelated, and when nobody disputed that they have their own glaring issues (which is sort of the entire reason modding is as popular as it has been)

Yeah, well, Fallout 4 has a bad story and you can't fix it with mods that's why.

Dunno about SC7, we'll see I guess. It's not been a franchise I've been excited for lately. So it can only get better I guess. While typing that I'm not really convinced of it Doubt they'll ever get back to the game it used to be.

Have we played the same games? I know that CT is the holy grail of stealth games but the AI in that game is extremely simplistic and limited. The AI in Blacklist is better than in CT except for some minor issues.

CT is the best Splinter Cell but Blacklist is tied for 2nd (with the PS2 version of Double Agent) and it would have been a clear nr. 2 if not for the new Sam and retarded story (although I wouldn't call any Splinter Cell story great by any means).

The first reaction when reading the name Splinter Cell is always a joyful one, then the Ubireality hits me like a hammer :3

Blacklist was huge step forward compared to the Conviction abortion, but not quite there for me both in terms of design and the more gamepad-oriented movements/mechanics (without mentioning "Sam" himself).
Still, it could serve as a solid starting point to develop an even better game, but its sales figures didn't satisfy the Ubimen as far as I remember, which makes me think that they'll follow another new 'direction' so to speak.

I wonder if we can expect an online-focused watered-down couch-op-friendly Panther cell, the trend of the moment at the Ubi quarters Crying or Very sad Laughing

Yep, but that doesn't explain why any time I say something someone disagrees with, that they throw a Bethesda game in my face as if I ever defended the crappy parts of those games. Or what relevance it has in a Splinter Cell thread

It has relevance because you seemingly ignore the "make a classic derper throughout the years", even though each new game from Bethesda is more casual than the previous one. How does that not apply? Very Happy

Quote:
If you asked the designers of the original first few games what their vision for SC would have been ~10 years down the line, it wouldn't be the garbage that was Conviction or Blacklist

Would this not apply to Morrowind developers as well?

Quote:
Blacklist might have been 'great' on its own, but relative to the games that preceded it, it's junk.

Does this not apply to FO4 when compared to F:NV, or even FO3?

I don't claim you ever defended the poorer parts of those games, but why is such a thing worthy of a Laughing here (even though Ubisoft actually reduced the derpiness level in SC when compared to Conviction, unlike Oblivion>Skyrim or F:NV>FO4), and not there?

Quote:
Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell series hasn’t received a new installment since Splinter Cell: Blacklist in 2013, and protagonist Sam Fisher has been absent from the company’s E3 presentations for three years in a row. But it appears that the series’ famous trifocal goggles could be making a comeback, as the publisher recently filed a trademark application for the Splinter Cell name.
