So i plan to upgrade my win7 install finally to win10 this week. got myself a 512GB SSD for this purpose. But i would like to keep my win7 install cause its clean and works well so ideal for the upgrade.
From some googling Clonezilla seems to be the preferred software. But i see several variations of what settings to use. Also should i plug in the new 512gb on available sata port or use sata to usb adapter to clone to? Wondered if one of you could help me out.
If you can get a copy of Acronis use that or use: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
Plug the SSD into the available sata port to clone it will be faster than USB unless you use USB3.
I prefer CloneZilla. With it you don't need to install any additional crap to your system. LiveUSB, clone, enjoy.
ps. You can find tons of tutorials with Google and Youtube.
Another professional grade alternative is Veeam Endpoint Backup Free. You can do barebone hardware restores to any system and I suggest everyone to use it on any PC worth backuping. It has ransomware protection aswell so even if your PC would totally been overwritten with it you can easly just restore to the last backup point.
