Nintendo's Classic Mini to launch in November for $59.99 with 30 games
Nintendo has announced the upcoming launch of the Classic Mini, a new (and much smaller) version of its beloved Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console.
"The classic NES is back in a familiar-yet-new form as a mini replica of Nintendo's original home console," the company said today. In a modern twist on the old-school design, the Classic Mini not only features a more compact design, but it will also connect to your TV via a HDMI cable.
The HDMI cable will be included in the box along with one classic controller too, which will also be sold separately, and can be connected to a Wii or Wii U, if you want. But more importantly, the Classic Mini console will also come with 30 pre-installed games, including some legendary titles:
Balloon Fight
Bubble Bobble
Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Double Dragon II: The Revenge
Dr Mario
Excitebike
Final Fantasy
Galaga
Ghosts'n Goblins
Gradius
Ice Climber
Kid Icarus
Kirby's Adventure
Mario Bros
Mega Man 2
Metroid
Ninja Gaiden
Pac-Man
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
StarTropics
Super C
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Tecmo Bowl
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
And the price of all this nostalgic gaming goodness? The Nintendo Classic Mini will launch on November 11 for $59.99.
There is one downer in all this, though: while Nintendo says that it will include "a USB cable for powering the system" in the box, it also adds that "an AC adapter for the USB cable is required to play the system but is not included in the packaging." It's not yet clear how much that will cost.
Really dumb u cant load anymore games too it otherwise it looks nice. I can already play roms on my nvidia shield tv.
And why the hell will the cable to the AC adapter not be included? thats just dumb, skip the hdmi cable instead and add the damn thing so u can power it up from the box.
I'm willing to bet it may be able to be hacked. It is more than likely a stripped down Wii in a NES shell running those games in emulation.
I think $60 isn't bad considering it does come with that one controller. That one controller will be able to be used on the Wii/Wiiu so it makes it of more value to me at least.
The NES games are too primitive, the SNES holds up way better. Call me when that happens.
No wait, there are perfect emus that I can use on my laptop, a raspberry pie or something like that, with customisable gfx options, savestates, cheat support and allll the roms I could ever want for free ... so nevermind about this failbox lol
Not sure what's fail about it. It's an officially licensed Nintendo product which means a lot to some people.
They could've just made a huge online library for this, they could've shown some kind of effort to rekindle the old (S)NES love. I really like the idea, but the execution is ridiculous. Why would the new gen players ever think of playing NES games? Why would the older players who'd buy this out of nostalgia, not use an emulator with all the added benefits? This product makes no sense to me.

Agreed, it appeals to sperglords that will buy it because Nintendo.
Most people want a real clone console that can play all the games. If possible, to have an actual cartridge slot, too! If not, then at least be able to buy/play the games they want.
What if I want to play Contra or Captain Skyhawk or River City Ransom or TMNT? Forget about Duck Hunt, too
Look at the top sellers of the system, many CLASSICS are missing! Fail...
A little off-topic, but the release of the Mini NES made me build a little Raspberry Pi machine for my girlfriend's little brother. The limitation to only 30 games was a deal-breaker to me.
It's built on Recalbox OS, was really easy to set up - only MAME/Neo-Geo were a little troublesome, but it's just a matter of grabbing the right romsets. Chose to enclose it in a Lego recreation of the Mini NES:
+9000 games for all sorts of machines up to Nintendo 64/Playstation ( even ScummVM, and Dreamcast soon ): he has been playing all sorts of retro-games since Christmas. A feat I'm quite proud of !
R5 5600X - 3070FE - 16GB DDR4 3600 - Asus B550 TUF Gaming Plus - BeQuiet Straight Power 11 750W - Pure Base 500DX
I'm just doing: PC+Launchbox+Steamlink. Mine is running all the time anyway. With better finances I'd probably set up a NUC. That being said, absolutely love that we have these cheap and easy options for emulator boxes
When I can pick one up for the original launch price, I will. Was waiting for rom injection, wasn't sure it was going to be possible, thank god they figured it out!
Hoping Nintendo doesn't do a hardware revision or anything and block this current method before I can get one!
