I currently have a 4460 wich tops off at 3.4ghz, this hasnt been a problem in most games, but i can feel in open world games like the witcher and others, that i can get microstutters as the cpu reaches that 100% core usage..

I was wondering, if i should get the 4790k (its cheaper to upgrade, no mobo or ram needed) or later this year the 6700k with a full upgrade, or just wait next year for the next big thing on intel..

I must stress out that i game at 60hz (60fps) @ 1080p, the majority of games i play are fps games and online games, so, is this upgrade worth it for these open world games or should i stick with the 4460 for now until better options arrive?

PS: the 4790k is actualy clocked higher than the 6700k ( im not ocing these cpus, just standard clocks for now)

Thank you for your cooperation Very Happy

As i told you already: IMO get a i7-6700k.

Also both CPUs have the same clock: 4.0 GHZ. At least in Germany.
Also in Germany the newer 6700k is ~20€ cheaper than the older model.

if you can afford it get the 4790k now and save the rest for the next intel toc, and then do a full rig upgrade.

if it's one or the other, I'd wait for a full upgrade.

I would suggest investing to i7 (4790K), nothing less. 6700k would require full system swap, and not worth it over 4790K.

if it's custom pcb you can sell it for at least 400, 450 is the max you will get, considering 1070 is still not in stock at least in nl

Im really on the fence on this one, but it seems the 6700k is the way to go, cant ignore those 30+ fps on that benchmark compared to the 4790k..

I've been wondering whether to go with a corsair 110 water-cooled. This however looks like a great air cooler and gets excellent reviews.

They dont have the same clocks here in my store:

The 6700k is 4.0hz boost 4.2ghz | 4790k is 4.2ghz base and 4.4ghz boost..

Think ill get a 4790k and be done with it in the next few months, if it isnt avaiable ill just get the 6700k because i will not have another choice anyways.

probably a typo in the store as both cpu's are 4ghz base clock, but yeah, the 4790 has a bigger boost.

Ok have decided to go with the 4790k for now, just bough 8gb ram (i know im dumb) and dont wanna buy an entire mobo and new ram just to upgrade the cpu, as far as i can see the 4790k is more than enough to game at 1080p 60fps coupled with the 1070..i know the 6700k is better but i just dont see the 150 extra euros beeing worth that boost..this computer is 1 year old, i was enmployed at the time so i went for the cheapeast i could, now im slowly regaining some parts to be on par with high end gaming..
