Hya guys

Would i notice much difference if i get a new AMD RX 480?

I plan to upgrade my machine slowly so dont know if i would see a huge difference if i only upgrade my videocard for now.

Currently im using a AMD Radeon HD 7970 card from a couple of yrs ago.

Rest of the ancient stuff is a 2500k processor and 8gb of ddr3 memory.

So basically would the rest be a huge bottleneck for the 480?

if the 2500k runs with a good amount of oc its fine, but i would wait to see what the 1060 delivers for the money

depends on what you play, i'd say 7970=280x is still a capable card, but if you in need for an upgrade and your res is higher than 1080p then 480 will not exactly grant you a huge upgrade

also topic probably best suited for hardware zone

You planing on play at 1080p, 1440p, 4k? Is your i5 overclocked?

The 480 is quite perfect for 1080p and your i5 wont bottleneck it. I have the same rig 7970, 2500k @ 4.3ghz and 8gb of ram and Ill get a 1070 this week for 1440p, if I was on 1080p I would definitely go for the X480.

Atm mainly 1080p as i cant afford a 4K screen anyway.

Once i upgrade to a 4k screen eventually i could sell that 480 again

Thanks for the info

*EDIT how far did you overclock it? Not using a stock fan though but forgot the name lol

I'd def. go for the RX 480. It makes your 7970 look ancient (and I've just got a seriously overclocked 7950). For the price it's a butt kicking card.

Should be OK. As long as you can afford the Trent 900 blades for cooling the system properly, after install of the AMD heater. Also, if your case isn't 140ft x 190ft, then the 480 might have difficulty with airflow.

IMO, with an older CPU you should get an nvidia card. You want all the cpu power you can get for CPU hungry games, and AMD's drivers often have an overhead which will affect your framerate.

that's at least what I would do if I had your rig.

Don't be daft, WAIT for the 1060 even if it's just to see if it will have any effect on the price of the 480. And besides by then you'll have versions of both cards with proper coolers available.

If its to noisy ill just sell it again seeing the prices are inflated everywhere lol

Another company had it listed for 245,- afterwards they raised it to 399,- Laughing
