Scorn is an atmospheric first person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around an idea of "being thrown into the world". Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The world is so unsettling and mysterious you won't be able to resist embarking on the journey that lies ahead. Main character is not already fleshed out hero with predetermined personality and history. You are the main character.
There is no conventional plot as we hope that every player would give their own interpretation of the events, themes and their role in this universe through exploration and interaction with the game world. The story and themes we are trying to convey get there desired effect through experience rather than exposition. Storytelling wise it is most similar to games like Metroid Prime, Dark Souls, Journey, etc.
Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive lived in world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.
Different features and gameplay mechanics combined together create a unique experience.
Cohesive "lived in" world - Scorn takes place in open-ended world with different interconnected regions you can explore in a non - linear fashion. Each region is a maze-like structure with various set of rooms and paths to discover. Environment is a character in itself. Every location contains its own theme, puzzles and characters that are integral part of the setting. Open ended and interconnected level design and the sense of isolation that it brings is influenced by games like Metroid Prime, Dark Souls, Ico, etc.
Full body awareness - Player will experience enhanced game world immersion, and will be familiar to character’s body and movement. Interaction with the world is realistic - objects are picked up with your hands (instead of just floating in mid-air), machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls etc.
No HUD - There is no HUD to assist the player. Everything is implied and indicated through environmental design.
Inventory and ammo management - is defined and limited. It plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Players will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how their actions affect the world around them. Different play styles will be needed to advance.
Scorn part 1 of 2? Is the game split into parts?
Yes, we are planning to release it in two parts, with the first part coming in 2017.
These two parts represent everything that will ever be done. There will be no DLC, expansions or sequels. Ever

Unfortunately these indie horror episodic games tend to be really cheap, "empty", efforts. But we'll see.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

So you're dreaming of bio-mechanical phallic and vagina looking structures/entities?
Whatever raises your wood mate
Yep. Raised on Giger, Beksiński and polish poster artist from PRL. I drunk milk from this biomechanical tities.

I was in the Giger museum back in Gruyères and was raised by a father who loved Alien, Blade Runner, 2001, etcetera. Also I'm fond of the new flesh concept by Cronenberg (eXistenZ, Crash, Dead Ringers) and I would embrace The Spaghetti Monster (which is the sibling of Cthulhu ) if I wasn't completely agnostic. Also this,
For the past two years, our team has been working hard on the development of Scorn. Our studio has grown to over 20 people and we have entered the financial partnership with Humble Bundle, which helped us immensely at the time.
Despite all the struggles we’ve been through since we began working on the Scorn, we are still determined to keep the project alive. We have never compromised on the quality of the game, and we’re not planning to do so now.
We are getting close to completion of Part 1, but we’re not really satisfied with all the aspects of the game. After much internal deliberation, we decided that it would be the best to try and acquire additional resources, taking more time to polish the game, rather than releasing something we’re not entirely happy with.
With all that said, we are pushing the release date for 2018. More development time would give us an opportunity to expand the scope and polish the game the way we really want to. And in order to make all this happen, we decided to organize a Kickstarter campaign to acquire the necessary resources.
The Kickstarter campaign will launch on September the 5th, along with a brand-new gameplay trailer. We immensely appreciate your support, and we have prepared both physical and digital rewards for our backers. To show our gratitude, we are working hard to make a game demo available for all our supporters and give you a first-hand Scorn experience.
1: money. granted it hasnt always been a killer, but to hear theyre not happy with what theyve got, and they need lots more money to do it... doesnt mean it wont be finished or released, but it does mean theyre not as comfortable or at ease in development as theyd like to be, which never bodes well.
2: part 1. PART 1?! jesus christ i didnt know this was going to be an episodic or multi part game. fucks sake. so many games - and ones struggling for finances at that, come out with a first part and then NEVER follow up... and how many potential buyers will read 'part 1' and say naahhh ill wait.
3: inner chains. i know its a different game, and has nothing to do with scorn, but it had the same kinda aesthetic, looked amazing in the screenshots and had a great ambition, and a similar small studio limited funds setup, and that game woefully misfired and soured me against games of this type. irrational, yes, but i cant help that its made me wary of this game.
The design is fantastic..as expected.. the gameplay, however...It feels wrong..the gunplay isn't satisfying at all.
Another thing.. it feels like a techdemo..Do u remember Agony? The game that is pretty similar to this one. They released a demo version and despite having little gameplay and no gunplay at all it felt like a proper demo. This one? Not so much.
I think this video will do the devs a disservice..They should have chosen a better part of the game and add some story cutscenes and other stuff. .Then all this combined would outweigh a lackluster gameplay.
