My father has shown an interest in VR and wants a new computer to run it.

Now stupidly i said i'd donate mine to him and upgrade.

I have a i5 3570K overclocked to 4.3ghz and 980Ti Gaming.

What cpu, mobo and memory combo do you guys recommend?

I'm keeping my 980Ti until the 1080Ti comes out. I didn't really want to upgrade yet as the 3570 still holds up pretty strongly.

If you are buying new components then 6700K, Asus Ranger/Hero/Gamer Pro mobo, 16GB DDR4 3000MHz (or faster if you can afford it). EVGA G2/Seasonic Platinum 550-750W PSU etc

Would the 4790K be a better option than the 6700K? I've just read a few reviews saying the 6700 is actually slower for some games, if true.

If you are buying new components then definitely go for 6700K. It is the best choice for gaming IF you are buying new components. 4790K is very good only if you can get it for no brainer price.

Thanks guys.

So going the 6700K route seems the way. I just don't want to be upgrading mobo + cpu for another 4 years if possible.

Is X99 build out of the question? since you want 4 years atleast out of the PC. What is your budget exactly?

Budget isn't an issue, but.. i don't want to throw too much money at the new build.

I'm 99% gaming so i need something aimed purely for this.
