Resident Evil 7 Biohazard sets a new course for the Resident Evil series as it leverages its roots and opens the door to a truly terrifying horror experience. The new era of horror is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 (the full gameplay experience will also be available via the included PlayStation VR Mode) and Xbox One.
Set within a sinister plantation mansion in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective for the first time in the Resident Evil series. Embodying the iconic gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago, Resident Evil 7 biohazard delivers a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment.
Features:
* Opening the doors to a new era of horror – The next major entry in the renowned Resident Evil series makes a dramatic new shift as it comes to next generation consoles, Windows PC and PlayStation VR.
* Returning to the series’ roots - Resident Evil 7 biohazard will deliver an experience reminiscent of the series’ signature gameplay including exploration, puzzles and a realistic tense atmosphere for players to encounter but will offer a complete refresh of the gameplay systems to propel the survival horror experience to the next level
* Immersive, visceral horror – A new shift for the series to first person view brings the terrifying horror directly up close and personal; PSVR compatibility heightens the chilling experience even more.
* Built from the ground up on the RE Engine – Capcom’s brand new VR compatible development engine works in tandem with industry leading audio and visual technologies to create a disturbingly photorealistic experience for an unprecedented level of immersion.
* Step inside the plantation now on PlayStation Plus – The standalone teaser demo “Beginning Hour” can be downloaded now by PlayStation Plus subscribers, delivering players a taste of what they can expect from Resident Evil 7 biohazard when it releases in January next year
Wow this was one of the highlights for E3 for me. I played the demo.
Spoiler:
I managed to open the red door and got killed and I managed to find a phone and then got killed. I watched some guy streaming this last night for a long time and he was adamant there is a way to end the demo without dying although many times he thought Capcom were just trolling lol. I saw a couple of ghosts and the mannequins that move when you dont look at them! The guy found an axe which seemed to have zero use and I have no idea what the dummy's finger is for! He also discovered the entrance to the hallway from the kitchen triggers the phone to ring! He counted 7 rings before answering the phone and although he died the phone voice had alternative dialogue! Thats pretty cool. He also claimed someone else had spent 14 hours exploring which must have been super dull given how few areas there are!
This is a great article! I had no idea the game has so many ghosts! Theres clearly certain ways to trigger them! Its really fascinating stuff!

Lots of people have played the demo multiple times, searching every nook and cranny—but many believe they’ve yet to find every secret.
I gotta say the game is nothing like what anyone expected from a Resident Evil game from the gameplay and visuals to the first person perspective!? I totally embrace it though and is a massive reason to invest in VR!
Just as surprising is the demo is the VR game Kitchen from E3 last year.
Last year, your humble host screamed like a baby over Kitchen – a very popular Capcom created tech demo for PlayStation VR. We always hoped that the idea would eventually expand into a full game, and during last night's Sony E3 2016 press conference, that's exactly what was teased. But we could have never imagined that it would turn out to be Resident Evil 7.
Except, the hint was there all along. A quick look back at Kitchen's logo reveals a super-secret "7", which we've only identified with hindsight. Darn you, Capcom – darn you all to hell. If the entire Resident Evil 7 experience turns out to be as eerie as Kitchen on PlayStation VR, though – well, we may be the ones going straight to hell after all.
A lot of people want the standard third person game lol.
Capcom said recently that Resident Evil is about horror, exploration, puzzles and resource management, and they're right. But they forgot something very important: Resident Evil is successful also because of its characters. To many fans characters are as important as the horror itself. We believe that first person camera compromises the potential of the main character and the identity of the series as a whole. Also, we believe that this kind of gameplay are not as enjoyable as Third Person games. Give us the option to play in a Third Person Camera.
It's funny how completely they're turning the franchise around 6 was more of an action game than horror and now we've got the exact opposite. Maybe they saw the potential in people's reaction to Silent Hill (or the loudly voiced sadness over its untimely demise)?
Regardless, it's a good thing in my book. It also makes me wonder how much of a deviation will this game be from previous installments. I kinda feel like the franchise has been stuck in a loop for a while now - it repeates the same story, same tropes over and over again. 4th is maybe the only real exception, to a degree - and it's also one of the best. I wonder if VII will have the balls to go in a different direction with the story
Haven't played the demo yet, but I certainly intend to do so. VR is also an interesting possibility - a good test for the strength of one's bladder
Yeah, i think i read that it was mostly the way you could move your head whilst moving freely with the controller that made people sick.
I know other games do that and it`s fine, but there`s a fine balance with VR/3D and they`re just not done figuring out how it should work with this game yet.
Not shocking to me if they got pushed to show something ASAP and was lacking in time to do it properly.
I just hope the BF X-wing mission is awesome, that little stupid thing is what sold me on PSVR and made me prehodor one.
Good thing i can try it out and send it back for a full refund if it sucks
According to the Playstation blog, the Beginning Hour demo will receive a “Twilight version” update today, which is supposed to expand on “what you can do and explore” within the demo — which makes sense, given that there were a few items within the demo that players found no use for the first time around. Appropriately, the footage Capcom just released gives us a glimpse of more areas of the house that weren’t previously accessible, as well as some more clues as to what’s going on with the Baker family.
I'm still not keen on zombies but I'd do anything with PSVR so it's ok...
I'd actually prefer Virtua Cop over Until Dawn or the house of the dead but I guess SEGA are too ioditic to port them again..
They did great on PS3 with HOTD3 & 4 and Overkill, plus Daytona USA.. But PS4 has no sega love
They had the move on PS3 there is no lightgun on PS4 and I'm betting Sega or Namco doesn't want to invest in creating one. I think light gun genre is dead on home consoles sadly, however Time Crisis 5 came to arcades in 2015, but I have no expectations of getting a home version.
Watching loads of PSVR headsets on eBay at the moment and waiting for my time to snipe! Seems the only place Im likely to get it! I really thought they would be more widely available at retail given how close Resident Evil 7 is! I dont mind getting it preowned though. Some of them are barely used and with the camera and move controllers there are some decent prices for bundles.
If I dont like it or cant use it I could always sell it back to pay for the Nintendo Switch
