They have not settled on a game engine.
While Kojima would not specify a game genre, he did say there would be a lot of “action”. It will not be a straightforward action game however: “It’s something completely different from what they’re used to,” Kojima said.
The game sounds kind far off, release-wise.

Well myself and everyone else probably thought WTF after watching the trailer. As awesome as it was I guess I wasnt too surprised that Norman Reedus was in it.

Kojima has shown incredible cinematography in Phantom pain trailers and in first half of the game... or at least it's cutscenes. Seems like he had and idea but changed it too often and we got this Konami butchered thing.

I don't know wtf to expect with this game, but I am a huge Kojima fan and he still has my trust so I trust that this will be good although I could end up wrong.
According to Kojima, it’s an action game with open world, giving the player a degree of freedom, but it also has the story element you’d expect from a Kojima game. He said that Death Stranding does have an online element, but did not reveal how large that element is.
Maybe it'll be close to Phantom Pain type gameplay with hopefully a story that gets completed this time. I already miss Metal Gear Solid though, not the Survive crap real MGS Snake and Big Boss are such bad ass characters.

Each and every time Sam (who’s played by Norman Reedus) dies, you’ll end up at the bottom of the ocean, and you’ll be free to explore in first-person. Within this space you’ll find items and other objects, which we assume you’ll be able to bring back into the world with you.
So, in the trailer there’s a massive explosion before Sam is transported to purgatory, but when he’s brought back to life there’s an enormous crater in the world. Every death in your game will leave a mark behind.

That honestly made me think they're going for a surprise 2018 release, but we'll see.
2020 seems way too slow. I don't believe it for now.
