Hi guys! Any ideas on how to download and watch offline videos on an ios device?
I don't mind if its payed, as long as it works.

Tried itunes and google play, but both are messy and don't have avaiable "peppa pig" which is the main reason for this question Razz

Need it for a flight with my easy-rage 2 years daughter Razz

What videos do you mean? MKV/AVI? If so, just get VLC, and then transfer the files to VLC using iTunes.

Or Infuse - has integrated web-server making it easier to upload videos into it.

But both VLC and free version of Infuse won't play AC3 and DTS audio. So, you need to convert audio to AAC or specifically search for releases with AAC audio ala iTunes WEB-DL. Full commercial version of Infuse don't have such limitations.

For converting check out this thread --> http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=105890

- Use Pazera Free Audio Extractor to extract and convert audio without demuxing first
- Use MKVToolNix GUI to re-mux

Still the best method for me.

EDIT: Latest VLC update (2.7.7 from 11 May 2016) added AC3 support to VLC.

Are you sure about VLC?

About Infuse, it's true, but it's really worth the $5 USD they ask for... Converting is just not worth the time.

Just checked and AC3 support was added just recently in 2.7.7 update on 11 May 2016 update

Added support for AC-3 and E-AC-3 on iOS 9.3 and later

Could be related to this
Quote:

With the release of iOS 9.3, Apple is bringing support for Dolby Audio to millions of iOS devices, adding to the existing support on tvOS and the new Apple TV, and on the Mac since OS X El Capitan. This means that the Dolby Digital Plusâ„¢ format is now broadly supported across three major Apple platforms, enabling developers, content providers and audio professionals to deliver a rich, clear and powerful Dolby Audio experience across a wide range of Apple devices. This article provides more details about Dolby Audio support on iOS, OS X and tvOS.

###

Previous versions of VLC didn't have AC3, DTS support cause:

Quote:
For all those complaining about VLC's sudden inability to play AC3 audio after the update to 2.4.1, here is the reason behind this:

VLC 2.3.0 was taken down from the App Store because the support of AC3 Audio was done without proper Dolby licencing (Dolby owns the relevant patents). Therefore, to fix the problem, the VLC app had to be crippled in this area to meet Apple's Terms and Conditions. AC3 Audio playback is something that Apple won't tolerate unless proper licencing fees are paid out to Dolby. So, to fix this, VideoLAN is looking into going the in-app purchase route (it has been suggested at USD 0.99 to unlock) for enabling AC3 functionality. This should explain why this audio playback cannot currently be present in VLC for iOS. This info is cobbled together from various explanations given on the forum.

Tried VLC 2.7.7 and AC3 still doesn't work for me on iPad2 { A1396 (EMC 2416) }

Sad

Guess, AC3 support in iOS 9.3+ is for the newest devices only.

I see, it's a patent hell.

I use Infuse, which supports both AC3 and DTS, as well as better network SMB access. It can copy videos directly from SMB shares (NAS) to device.

Installing an enterprise signed app is never a good idea, unless it's built by you or your company. So no, don't use that.
