Looks nice, weapons look really tiny though but I guess it's good that they don't obstruct the view either.

Man, massive nostalgia hit there! The music reminds me of Everquest's .midi tracks, and the graphics seem to be a perfect blend of being retro, while still not sinking into the realms of being able to count the actual pixels (like so many indie devs settle for). Also, there's a hooker - that's ALWAYS a plus! Very Happy

Edit -

Dev replied on the Greenlight page this morning -

"About Early Access: we don't need that. Smile The game is practically complete, we are testing and polishing it.

About an Android port: If the game is successful enough on PC, we'll seriously consider it."

Hopefully we see it this month!

Out on Steam. Smile

EDIT: Just a 3 MB exe and a 159 MB data file, no steam_api.dll so it must not be using any Steam features either and should be DRM free if so.
(Though the community forums will probably have several complaints about missing cards, cloud saving and achievements. Very Happy )

(Windowed mode uses a fixed resolution, borderless and fullscreen use your desktop res.)

EDIT: Yeah this could be enjoyable, reminds me a lot of the Might & Magic games, six in particular with it's more "painted" style instead of the 3D CGI stuff used in 7 and 8 Very Happy

EDIT: Windowed mode which I'm using is displaying at 1280x720 but the screenshots still ended up in a 1920x1080 res so they are a tad blurry due to that.

EDIT: The Ice & Fire expansion is currently not included but they might end up remaking and releasing it for PC in the future and the other err fourteen or so expansions are all made by third parties so no info currently on whether they will be ported too or not.

Save fix (worked for me):

Quote:
If you have problems with saving the game, please check if you have the following folder on your computer: "C:\Users\<your windows username>\Saved Games\The Quest" (without the quotes). If not, create it. Saves should work after that.

I do not visit Cs.rin that often anymore but I was a bit surprised that there was no release available for this game yet (Dungeon Lords was released barely hours after it's Steam re-release in comparison.) so I zipped up the files and well, helped out a bit. Very Happy

Fixed crash when trying to load empty save slot by double clicking on it.
Added quicksave / load, usable on the game screen. (F5/F9 by default)
Added Cloud saves.

Another quick bug fix and even some new features, yeah daily patches can be annoying (Ark.. Very Happy ) but at least things are being fixed and in this case it's not too bothersome as it's a small game with only a few files. Smile
(And the fixes are actually important.)

EDIT: As another example Unity Engine games can be real sluggish when updated too due to the large amount of files that have to be altered, tends to be very fragmented afterwards too if you care about such things and Steam isn't all that great if you say compare patching Path of Exile via Steam vs. the stand-alone client. Very Happy
(I guess it's a balance on whether you replace the full file with the new version and as a result the download is larger or if you try to patch the existing files with the new data which can be a bit of a hassle depending on the game or game engine but it's not as big of a download for the end user.)

EDIT: Come to think of it I wonder how it works on a SSD, I mean it's of course going to be faster but if it's the same crappy patching won't it slowly affect the lifetime of the disk too?
(Not that SSD's are super fragile or anything and the whole read/write lifetime thing isn't that big of a issue but they're still not as robust as mechanical HDD's in that regard though those in turn can have many other problems on account of the various moving parts and sensitivity of the platters which a SSD is immune to though I heard they can be quite sensitive to power outages.)

This gets a new post as this update is a bit more comprehensive. Smile
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/972016511594403280

1.6.5

Quote:

Added weapon swapping. There are now two sets of weapons (or weapon/shield) you can equip on your character. There is also a new keyboard shortcut ('X' by default) to quickly switch between them.
Added option for letting the game continue running when not in focus.
Increased enchant storage for some light armor items.
Fixed rare misalignment of item prices in shops.
Replaced a few map icons (they were too small).
Other small fixes, and changes in the world.

Been trying to keep up to date with uploads to Cs.rin as well, I'm glad the developer is listening to suggestions and quickly fixing reported bugs and the like but almost daily updates can be a bit tough to keep track off. Very Happy
(It's a small game too so uploading and the like isn't a problem and neither is downloading hopefully.)

EDIT: 1.6.6
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/969764806323215555

Quote:

Items can now be picked up from neighboring teleports.
Arrows and throwing items are now combined into a single quiver/stack on pickup, when possible.
Fixed Cobra daggers. They are now properly enchantable.

EDIT: 1.6.7
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/969764806327577781

Quote:

Monsters are now shown on the discovered parts of the map, if they are near enough. Can be turned off.

EDIT: 1.6.8
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/969764806342140923

Quote:

Fixed crash when trying to view the map in the three easternmost map sections of the world.
Finishing the main quest now properly awards the appropriate fame.
Small corrections of text.
Other small fixes.

EDIT: 1.6.9
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/969765435021888709

Quote:

Added 'Drop Item' key ('Z' by default), which can be used on the inventory screen.
Small corrections of text.

EDIT: 1.6.10
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/969766177516401517

Quote:

Fixed crash in rare cases when fighting both a melee and a ranged attacker.
Fixed double reputation loss in certain circumstances when attacking a city guard or streetwalker.
Corrected the description of Poison Cloud.

EDIT: 1.6.11

Quote:

Corrected rare occurance of a monster having the appearance of another monster.
Drinking a potion now passes the time by one in game minute, just like attacking or casting a spell.
Limited resistances to 80%.

EDIT: 1.6.12
http://steamcommunity.com/games/thequest/announcements/detail/970893970522792785

Quote:

Steam says it got released yesterday. So i guess it left EA at that point, though the current version is 1.6.12. Which is rather strange for a game that just left EA.

It can be found on the russian forum, thanks to JB. Very Happy
