A video of the Andromeda Galaxy made of the image released by Nasa.\
Watch in at least 1080p for the full impact..
It boggles the mind of the shear number of stars in it, and the vastness of its size.
While watching it imagine one, just one, of those many many stars was our sun. It doesn't matter which one. That speck, would equal all we ever knew, ever traveled to with ALL the advancements we have had, all the probes we sent, that speck would be our entire solar system.
And the closest one to it, just a pixel or 2 away, was the next closest star to us.
That would be 4.37 light years between the stars (based on our galaxy)
To travel that few pixels at 60MPH, 24/7 365, would take...44,640,000 years to reach it. To move over on that image barely enough to even be noticeable, just a pixel or 2.
A mere point, on that entire image, traveling to its next nearest fleck of light. is us...dreaming of 'vast' space travel to our neighboring star, a feat that is no where near even remotely in our grasps.
That entire image, is just a TINY TINY fleck of our night sky. you could cover it up with a thumb held out at arms length.
Not only is it the closest, so the largest we can see, that is only ONE of at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe. Just one of them. With the distances between them VASTLY greater in magnitude than the simple pixel jump we did that took us 44 million years to achieve.
And to think some people think we are special, or unique, or somehow the center of the universe and that it was all made for us in some grand human based test, is a gross massive egocentric statement that is humbled beyond any point of arguable truth, by a simple image of our closest galaxy neighbor and imagining one of those pixels of light was us, in a sea of speck of lights.

All this fuss for a piece of dark paper with white ink spots on it! - The Flat Earth Society
All kidding aside, it is absolutely mesmerizing and thought-provoking, so much that it becomes almost frightening to me.
Having all this visual knowledge and not being able to do anything with it is also quite frustrating, because we've been lucky enough to be aware (approximately) of part of our "surroundings", but unlucky to experience them firsthand..stuck in the intergalactic friend-zone limbo xD
(Damn, now I feel the need to rewatch Interstellar to quench at least some of those spaceporn-y thoughts )
I wonder why humanity isnt more inspired to go out there and explore. Instead they prefer to make war on this tiny speck of nothing.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Of course, if no habitable planet is ever found. At the same time spending more ressources on developing drives and searching for habitable planets could have a higher priority.

It would help if we found a fucking habitable planet
So we could fight each other for it.

I think with the distances we're talking about there is no use going out out there to search. We should search from here with telescopes like the Hubble, but improving upon it.
Then when something is found ... I guess ... start sending drones? Maybe take a while till they get there lol

I was about to post - one of those star systems MUST have a fucking planet with sentient life on it.
When you see those impressive galaxy flyby's, like a starfield but galaxies, you don't really appreciate just how gargantuan the scale of space really is, until you see a vid like that - then you see how much STUFF is in just one galaxy. Combine that with all the ones you see in said flyby, and well.
Space is big.
Really, really big.

"Going out there" is a way of saying: planning to go out there at some point. I didnt mean to fly around stabbing at the dark for nothing.

whenever i think of the multitudes of solar systems, galaxies, even superclusters and all their size in comparison to what we know, i ask myself, why dont more people share this kind of amazement, instead of mostly focusing on irrelevant shit all their lives,
but then...

yep, thats why
No.. space doesn't give instant financial gratification.
Money has ruined Humankind. Until we get rid of it, we're doomed to ultra-capitalism.
