Just wondering if it is common to have movies skip or at times completely freeze?

I use cheapish TDK DVD-r's. I burn at 2x speed on an LG DVD burner.

I get grabbing on average once or twice per film and occasionally a movie will freeze altogether...Which as you can appreciate is annoying when you are 90% through a movie (it always happens toward the end for some reason).

Anyway – do I have to get a new drive or buy better media?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

I'd recommend Taiyo Yuden's ... they've always worked flawlessly for me .. Ritek G04 or G05 are pretty decent and not that pricey.

First thing you should do is actually figure out what the Media ID is on your media.

should provide you with all the info you need on media id and which discs you should buy.

if its 8x or faster media then some high speed writers dont burnt the discs well at 2x, try 4 or 8x.

nowadays its not really wise to burn at 2x with modern writers.

look up if LG has a recommended media list like NEC e.g. Always use the media recommeded for your writer. The writing strategy has to be optimized for the media you are using, otherwise the results can be of very poor quality. You can use DVD Identifier to check for the manufacturer of your media.
