Hey guys, I am thinking about installing win10. I have a PC with 4 hard drives installed. 3 have only games on them and the main one has the win 7 64bit and other applications only. My question is if I unplug the 3 game hard drives. Then upgrade to win10 on the OS app Hard Drive C: When I plug the 3 game hard drives back in....will it mess everything up? Or will I be able to send the game.exe short cuts back to the desktop without any issues?? Thank you

Upgrade or new installation?

If upgrading to Win10, i would let all drives connected. Windows will migrate all (or most) installed apps and games to the new OS.

If a new installation: Yes, disconnecting the not need drives you can do. It's not needed, but just in case if you delete the wrong partition during installation. Cool Face

bob is right, BUT always disconnect any other drives when installing windows! why? cause windows installation can fuck up and put the bootmanager or something else on it and wont start anymore if you remove that drive second disc. and you would not be able change the drives letters (ok you could via registry modification)

and overall: please dont use the upgrade shit, do an clean install (if you have a legit 7 key its not problem -> just use a new th2 1511 image (from november) and just enter the key when the installation asks for one. gets activated without problems (just like the upgrade installation would do), but its not possible to enter it when windows is already running. for your games: steam games are no problem, just backup the steam program folder, copy it back and reinstall the steamsetup again into that folder. will have all librarys etc and no need to redownload anything. same goes for origin and uplay, but they might (atleast origin does) redownload a few mb per game). for everyother game: if they work without a installation -> no problem (goes for every pirated steam game for example). others might need registry entrys (most likely older games)

The reason I ask is because last july I did an upgrade to win 10 as I just wanted to see after day after day of the win10 nag....I left the drives plugged in and it pooched the whole thing. It couldn't connect to the internet....audio drivers were fucked....wireless driver it couldn't find....plus the whole thing sat there and was so slow....it was almost 3 hours of freezing and rebooting...I panicked and just formatted the hard drive and put win 7 back on the C: drive. It installed stuff between all the drives....but 2 of the drives then just had games on them? Big FAIL!!

I don't have a legit OS so I thought the upgrade would be better....thanks so much for the help.
