I just got a PSP 3000. It has the latest firmware on it. Can I load .cso and .iso files on it or do I need a custom loader? I currently have a 8gig memory stick.

That's all you need Smile And yes, you can load .CSO/.ISO files and play them just fine Smile

The PSP was (is!) a spectacular handheld, it not only has a great catalogue of games but it's also great as a portable emulation station Smile Though, sadly for the PSP, it has long since been outclassed by the various Android handhelds around -- hilariously, many of which can now EMULATE the PSP amazingly grinhurt

I bought mostly for emulation but I figured it had to have some good games for it also.

Patapon games
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Little big planet
GTA's
Valkyria Chronicles II
YS
...

Not to come right at you or anything, but I have never found this to be the case, and it blows my mind whenever anyone says this.

I tried to run an (OPTIMIZED!) SNES emulator on my PSP once and it was probably the most horrid experience I've ever seen. Constant skips in audio, slow as fuck, and generally awful in all ways.

What am I missing?

Uh, I don't know what to say but SNES was largely great for me. Very few games couldn't be played at full speed without issues (those usually being titles requiring extra chips and hardware, like SuperFX) -- then there's NES, Master System, GB/GBC/GBA, Megadrive, Neo Geo, CPS1/2.

I never got to Emulation on the PSP yet, have still way too many games to play up to a point I'm thinking I should emulate the PSP

I already have ran MAME as well as some atari emus. Wasn't to impressed with the MAME version. Donkey Kong audio skipped and wouldn't run at full speed unless I disabled the audio. Will try MegaDrive and NES tonight.

MAME is awful, sadly, you're not going to find much playability there. Emulators like CPS1PSP/CPS2PSP and MVSPSP are the best if you just want the associated games, but yeah, MAME is bad. Oh and I'm not saying SNES is perfect by any means, but it's definitely more than playable with the overwhelming majority of titles Smile

~edit~

Oh! Don't forget to overclock Wink The PSP stocks at 222Mhz and while that's okay for some games, it runs *so* much better at 333Mhz overclocked. Most FW can specify that now Smile
