Ransomware, Cryptolockers, Miners..fits the zeitgeist. It's just another business model.
Viruses were cooler when they simply destroyed shit, oh how I miss those times. Lost a Win98 and WinME installation to that. Glad I didnt get that one that could fry the motherboard
oh boy, ,dont listen to the local news in germany. that cryptolockers are daily stuff. and who the fuck opens unwanted documents? and who the fuck has macros enabled for non-own documents? its disabled by default since office 2003 or 2007 i think
only vulnerable point are drive by downloads, but even that happens only on outdated systems. and by now every av solution (ofc including windows defender) is able to detect that
the only thing that makes it different that it uses network folders to spread, i.e. companies are very vulnerable since they often use network folders with many people and there is a lot software which only works with very old java versions -> kinda fucked
