Just wondering what people recommend. Also would like the opinion of current SLI users (9xx). Never used SLI myself, read about all the issues that can arise, doesn't bother me if the game doesn't have day 1 support for SLI.
Mostly interested in temps (currently 72 degrees on my asus strix with 1450 clock and 99% gpu usage), how much would things go up from there with another strix would you reckon? Also frametimes and other stuff like that. My PSU is a corsair 850W so that should be fine, my motherboard should support SLI fine ( i think? ) and... do i need anything else to make it work?
Also i know about the VRAM issue, but would be way more comfortable and cheaper to get another 970 than sell and get a 980ti. In a bit of a pinch with moneyz atm and wifey wants to buy new fridge new washing machine and new this and that around the house.
Would waiting for Pascal be worth it? Idk what to do honestly. Just wanna play that W3 maxed out and DSR'd. 2560x1080 mostly ultra/Hairworks/med shadows gives a nice 50-60 fps but the aliasing is really annoying Sad

Thanks for your input.

PS: do you recommend getting the same card model or doesn't matter? Or a basic one with normal airflow instead of the custom cooled ones (think i read SLI works better with those)

Finally do the cards need to work at the same frequency?

980ti.

SLI is dead. More heat, more power, more noise, more headaches.

Better to just wait for Pascal...system requirements just keep going up, by the end of the year the recommended standard will probably be 6gb vram and 16gb ram. Soon a 980Ti won't even cut it for 1080p60.
And to think people are nowadays getting 1440p, 144hz displays, and VR is on the horizon Reaction yeah we seriously need that jump in performance

I think whether or not Pascal is worth the wait depends on which "end" is gonna launch first. It seems it's still quite some time away and if, like before, they will start with a "#04" variant instead of a full chip, then you will just get a GPU that might be slightly faster than the 980Ti, which won't be much of a game changer in terms of pure performance. In that case the next "Ti" could be half a year away at least. I bet they would also want to lead with "Titan" again, pushing the "Ti" even further.

Ironically enough, your hope might be in AMD getting there first and forcing Nvidia to accelerate and re-arrange their schedules Razz

have similiar problem atm..
I have r9 280x and i5-3570k + 16GB DDR3. and I have kinda problems run new gems with 30+ fps even on medium.. (not every single game, but most of them)

but I have about "900 euro" in virtual currency that expires at 30st of June. I wanted to wait for pascal, polaris or w/e. But dunno either of them will be out by that time Sad now I can affort ASUS STRIX-GTX980TI-DC3-6GD5-GAMING for like "750 euro" and something else for that leftover (like headphones etc).. rly hard decision Sad

SC2 is CPU bound, it uses also only 2 cores.
