What's the best app that I can open up, and it makes/updates a master directory/file listing of the drives I tell it to? It then complies these listings into a master database which I can then simply put in a *searchstring and see what I have stored where (even if the drive isn't plugged in)?

Also, it would be great if it had a backup schedule function for said listings, so if one my active drives goes tits up I have an idea of what was on it that I lost (don't need to actually back up the files mind you, just the directory/file structures).

Preferably something lightweight and non-bloatwarey.

Thanks!

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

use a lightweight non-bloat OS like gnu/linux and you will quickly understand the power of ext4 filesystem and cmd line Smile

Anyway I don't think you'd like to work with CSV files I assume and prefer something witha GUI, right?

That's correct. I don't want to muck about with command lines etc, just something with a nice clean interface.

That looks neat and exactly like what I'm looking for more or less. Although yarring said app may be a bit easier said than done, as the creator apparently has a sordid history with injecting all sorts of nasties into has code that range anywhere from simply deleting the created databases, to other, more malign type shit (nag-wear, restarting the PC etc.)

Something akin to the oldschool FADE protection that ARMA used - where it may appear to be cracked properly but really isn't.

May still give it a shot though.

Appreciate the suggestions all - feel free to chime in if anyone has any further alternatives. Honestly I'm surprised that there aren't more of these types of programs.

I download a lot of programs and keep them offline in case of a crash & reinstall scenario.
That means I have entire years of archives of certain programs VLC 1.6, 1.7, ... VLC 2.2.1 and so forth... so I want to identify which files I can safely delete in an automated way.
Especially drivers are huge (nvidia), 250-300Mb per release.

whats the added value of archiving different versions of drivers and applications???
