Skype isn't installed on my PC, but it is installed on my MBP and phone.
Skype hasn't been open on either of these devices for some time.
Last night, late, someone sent a message to all of my contacts with some bullshit link.
I assume they just guessed the password then? I ran AVG on my entire PC regardless, nothing found.

Do you use skype with skype user login or microsoft login? Either one of those accounts could be comprimised. Change your passwords asap and if you use a centralized password service that doesn't have two factor authentication enabled, then change the password for that and all stored services too

Had that happen to me, but someone used all my cash to talk to Afghanistan. To their credit, they returned the cash and I changed the password. By connecting with MS account, you can enable 2fa, so do it. If you don't want to use a real MS account, create one for Skype alone.

but 2fa is always a hassle... receiving an sms and stuff Why does security has to be so inconvenient

they just sniffed your IP , did a rudimentary port check ( like this one http://www.tcpiputils.com/browse/ip-address/ ) and went for your most used thing
its so easy this days , its scary ...
just block your ports , disable printer sharing and media sharing , and get a better firewall with Malwarebytes ... with something custom on the side

or they did a wifi sniff , if you use wifi ... its so easy this days to open connections and use virtual desktop
