Vivi! Crying or Very sad

The port will probably be crap though. Looking at the low fps in combat.

By far my favorite FF game of all time (although it's a close call, FF7 and FF6 being rather awesome as well).

Mainly because it actually deserves the title "Final Fantasy", rather than "Final pseudo-sci-fi japanese anime soap-opera cringefest", like FF10+ are.

Ah crap and i just replayed it on a emulator cause i thought this would surly never be released again Laughing
But looks pretty much the same anyway from what i can see a bit less blurry especially the fmvs and they improved the models a bit.
There are some screens on the page as well: http://app.famitsu.com/20160101_627529/

Always wondered something about these kind of games.:

The backgrounds seem to be manually drawn 2d pictures. I'm assuming the artists draw them at "full res" and they're then downsampled until they can fit in the ps1 memory. If that is the case, why in remakes/remasters they don't recover the original ones? Just lazyness? They're lost? I'm wrong about the whole process?

Nope you are totally right and FF IX is pretty much the only one of the 2d/3d hybrid games where we actually have some of those high res background art renders:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=551612
as far as i know square lost the high res versions of the drawn backgrounds for FF7/8.

Edit a lot of Information in that Gaf thread about this:

Quote:
They didn't "lose" the original assets so much as they never backed them up at all. Whenever they started a new project they would completely restart from scratch and never reuse stuff. Even Secret of Evermore, which has a similar gameplay to Secret of Mana, actually recoded everything from scratch instead of modifying the Secret of Mana engine.

Moreover, most of the artists for FFIX were Americans from Square USA who worked on 2 or 3 projects at most (FFIX, Parasite Eve and Spirits Within) before leaving the company forever. Modern Square Enix Japan probably have no clue who any of these guys from 1999 Square USA even are.

And that's without even mentioning the parts that Square USA themselves outsourced to other Western studios who themselves outsourced stuff to freelancers. Some of these studios don't even exist anymore.

It's my favorite in the series by far, btw PC will be the ultimate FF machine with this and FF X HD coming next year.

I suppose I prefer IX over VII and VIII since it's the only one of the three games I actually managed to complete. For some reason I got completely burnt out on VII and VIII by the final disc and never finished those games. Laughing

Never finished 7. Got bored around disc 3 when wheelchairs started appearing.

Finished 8 and it was fun, great visuals, never saw why 7 was touted as having amazing visuals with that shitty decision to have 'sprites'.

Still IX is the best for me.

Out of these three, I finished 8 and 9 and don't remember if I finished 7 (probably quit near the end). For some reason I liked 8 the most out of the three.

Anyway, it's nice that these classics are finally getting steam releases.

BTW, for fans of the genre, you should try out Tales of Zestiria if you feel like an epic deep JRPG and have already played all the good FFs. It recently got released on steam and I highly recommend it.

It has been scientifically proven that FFVII is the best.

It goes 7, 8, and 9 in that order. Fact.

I'd argue 7, 9, X, 8 in that order.

I knew it!

There is no "exclusive for life" deal for PS's platforms has some implied Rolling Eyes ,The game didn't make it to other platform because technial reaons.

Now that means the X can come as well Cool

Nice, but a mobile port? Eh FF V and VI was playable though VII and VIII were pretty sloppy really and this probably won't be a "remaster" so besides possibly allowing for playing at higher resolutions and with modern gamepads / keyboard + mice I don't expect too much although I heard the game itself was pretty good, a return back to the "Fantasy" setting rather than the more futuristic one used partially in VI and then fully in VII and VIII if I remember it right.
(XIII and XIII-2 weren't the best of ports either and no further work on them is planned I believe though LR FF XIII or FF XIII-3 or whatever to call it was handled OK although it's not perfect or anything but most of the main problems of the previous PC ports of the "FF 13" games have been resolved.)

X and X-2 were or well are apparently also planned but I heard some pretty bad things about the endings of the game on Neogaf and how the epilogue is done in a short novel type story with the first one set between X and X-2 and the second and final set after X-2, plus X-2 apparently in itself also ruins some of the things in X but I have not played either myself so it might not be too bad.
(The stuff the quoted from the novels though was pretty damn terrible but eh the game / gameplay might be OK even if the story might perhaps have been a bit screwed. Very Happy )

EDIT: And how will things be for I and II?
(It/they has quite a few different ports by now and a variety of features differing between those.)

And after that all that remains is 12 no?
(11 and 14 being MMO games.)

(And 15 I guess some year and a half or two after it's console release perhaps.)

Honestly just play them yourself that's just some bullshit someone posted, the ending of X was fine and X-2 is more like a fun what if continuation of X compared to the XIII games it's pure gold, that novel is more like fan fiction and is considered non cannon.

Don't bother waiting to play it guys...

FF7 and FF8 are better with an emulator unless you have a specific set of mods and even then I've yet to figure out a decent set of mods for ff8.

Its already PC and Android compatible Very Happy

Not gonna replay this anyways, as i finished it already back then.

And looking at the gameplay, they seem to put the same effort into this like for FF7 and FF8: minimal.

Still it's nice to get more console games on PC, even though they are just old ones.

FF9 is the only PSX FF that I have finished only once.

It just didn't do it for me like FF7 and FF8 did for some reason.

Release SaGa Frontier 2 on PC as well, but with more scenarios to truly flesh out the plot and characters.

Also Xenogears remake where they only make the graphics better and touch nothing else.

Kidding. Redo the 2nd disc as well.
