Google is logging for shure, so does opendns.

Please discuss....

yea im a noob. so what is the benefit from switching a dns server?
normaly i just use the dns server that i have gotten with my provider logins. if there are any problems with youtube for example, (slow loading etc) i switch to google dns for a few hours until it's fixed.

Code:
FreeDNS — open, free and public DNS — “37.235.1.174” and “37.235.1.177”
DNS.Watch — free, no logging, DNSSEC enabled – “84.200.69.80” and “84.200.70.40” also “2001:1608:10:25::1c04:b12f” and “2001:1608:10:25::9249:d69b”
Censurfridns.DK — two Danish uncensored DNS servers – “91.239.100.100” and “89.233.43.71” also “2001:67c:28a4::” and “2002:d596:2a92:1:71:53::”

Thanks..

So i tested some of em, and "Censurfridns.DK" seems to be a good one.. Performance is very nice, allmost like googles, and theyr not logging, well at least they promise too..

DNS Leaktest did good also..

Btw, heres a tool wich u can use to benchmark the dns server, very handy..

well, first one i think of is "Censorship", wich germany is doing i think..

and second:

(ill just copy and past that)

Quote:

DNS Neutrality

No organization should say what websites should or shouldn't be available to us, or the speed in which they load. By using our services you no longer have to trust your ISP and question their motives. You can rest assured that no dns queries are being censored by your resolver.

-

Privacy Protection

We have no interest in logging DNS queries. That's why all our resolvers are setup to not log any queries. Many DNS providers will log requests. Some anonymize that logs after a while, some don't. And many don't even let you know if they're logging or not.

-

Your data is yours

We're not interested in shady deals with your data. You own it. We're not a big corporation and don't have to participate in shady deals. We're not running any ad network or anything else where your DNS queries could be of interest for us. Other providers do.

-

No ISP DNS Hijacking

Seeing a "Search Page" every time you try to visit a site which doesn't respond or exist? That page is owned by your ISP. The domain you tried to visit, the ads and search input can be collected by your ISP. With us, we let your browser (which you are in control of) use it's default response to the error.

EDIT:

totaly forgot...
Some more GOOD sites to testing purpose..Like testing if teh DNS server is working that you want to use, what your browser is saying about you and more..Helps a lot to find holes in your settings.

1. https://ipleak.net/
2. https://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/help/security_test.html
(Browser fingerprint, Javascript values and IP address check)

might also be interessting..

DNSCrypt

DNSCrypt is a protocol that authenticates communications between a DNS client and a DNS resolver. It prevents DNS spoofing. It uses cryptographic signatures to verify that responses originate from the chosen DNS resolver and haven't been tampered with.

ok i can understand the privacy issues if you look out for stuff like this but what kind of censorship? i mean we are not living in china, turkey, russia or north korea. i really think about this right now if i have ever seen a site which i can't load or visit?! (of course sites like us netflix etc will not work anyway because of geoblocking) nothing comes to my mind.... is there an example for a site which does not work in germany because of censorship?

While I agree that this question is leggit and also interesting...

...I think you still missed the point.

We live in times where the technology enables you to do certain things.
Such as. .. no logging and no censorship DNS servers, so why not use it?

There are encrypted Messenger services competing with WhatsApp and co.
People use it, because it's there and it's convenient, not because "there is an actual, concrete propability of someone eavesdropping your messages".

3E74 asked for a cake without nuts and you ask him "are you allergic to nuts?".

None of your business, I want a cake with no nuts. Maybe I just don't like nuts... Very Happy

that is why i said "ok i can understand the privacy issues if you look out for stuff like this". it's totally fine if you look out for this stuff and use a alternative dns server then.
i was just curious if there are any examples for blocked sites in germany like in countries like china, russia, north korea and so on.

please don't be mad on a stupid noob who does not know better.

You can disable stats and logs from your opendns dashboard, no?

Quote:
OpenDNS gives you the choice to turn on (or off) data collection. If you disable this feature, we will stop logging your DNS lookups on a go-forward basis. Your charts and stats will reflect this choice: there will be no data from that point forward.

Also,

Quote:
This button simply deletes all the DNS data we have for this network up to this point in time. Think of it as a way of resetting your stats to zero.

Been using Opendns's family shield nameservers (208.67.222.123 & 208.67.220.123) for 6+ months now. Always fast.
Only issue was hump was blocked on it. Had to manually allow it. Whenever router goes off, have to login and click on the network icon. Other than that, no issues. Smile

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

@freiwald There are plenty of blacklisted sites but if you want to visit them you better start practising holding onto soap tightly

i don't want to visit any of those sites i was just curious how hard they censor stuff in germany and europe because i never ran into a sign like "this site is blocked in your country because <insert reason>".
and i guess you talk about cp? if so that is not what i meant... there is a good reason that stuff like this is not accessible.

Mind Is Full Of Fuck jeeeez, i didnt meant those sites freiwald.. uugghhh...

i have no specific site, but i had problems in the past, and only thing that helped was ether an vpn or a different dns server.

i was getting time outs, like as if teh site just didnt exist, but via proxy or anonymusmouse.org it was connecting..

i think it was Cryptome.org once.. and yes, some torrent sites also, but i would never touch them, if i have to use torrents i ussually use Private trackers...
