Just got myself one of these:

My Raspberry PI2 Model B is all set with both Wifi and a 64gb Sd card. Retropie with all amiga/c64 and most Arcade games are also ready.

What do I got left? Well, the arcade cabinet and the screen for it. Since Ive got one of these (Acer 23" LED T232HLbmidz, 1920x1080, 5ms, 100M:1, 10-point touch, VGA/DVI/HDMIlaying) about Ill be using it.

But my question is - anyone got suggestion for the look of the Cabinet or even more important - a good cooling solution for the raspberry (as I need to overclock it abit)???

Edit: Ah yes, ive got all Vectrex games installed too. Just as fun as I remembered it to be!

Don't know how common it is to find old arcade cabinets in Sweden. But have a looksie, sometimes it's more fun bringing them from the death than building a new one. Smile

Sorry mate, I wouldn't know where to start recommended a cab style for you - especially one being built around an X-Arcade. I will give you one piece of advice upfront; there's a lot of elitist bullshittery in the MAME/cab building scene and you're going to get some snide nonsense from purists who spit on the X-Arcade.

http://www.arcadecab.com/Intro.htm

That's a good start for decent full-sized cab plans that may fit an X-Arcade. Other than that, a few groups I'm part of that have some truly great people who are willing to help out.

The Arcade Collective
MAME Arcade Cabinet Builders

... just, as I said, watch out for elitists.

mh you should build it from scratch by yourself. would go first for a wodden framework for the x-arcade and the display. then build the complete frame around it. should be easy to set up with a few bars and plates on it (painted ofc). BUT do not only build it for the pi2 -> leave enough space to place a real pc into it in the future (if you wanna play sf5 or something other demanding on it)

Ta guys!

I dont really care much about the elitists - you meet their kind in any forum you visit so....im used to it Razz

Janz - putting a pc in the cabinet later on was one of my plans. But for now, the Raspberry will be good enough Smile

just said dont build it too small Wink

either that own your own or ask local dealers of such arcade machines, maybe they got some old defect shit somewhere you can get for a few bucks. but i think not easy to find one, and find one which is big enough for the x-arcade board. must be some of the bigger cabinets like nba jam etc used, dont think its easy to find one cheap

those premade bartops are too small for your screen and the x-arcade, still would suggest building one by yourself. will take time but could turn out great in the end Wink

ofc you have to decide wether you want to build a big one or a smaller bartop. think for a bartop like cabinet you will need about ~40-50euros on material. a big one most likely atleast 100 (with paint etc)

It should be quite easy to get one build - as a sheetmetal worker I have quite alot of contacts and options to get material cheap Smile

I know that you said dont build it too small - i never had any intentions of doing that apart from making sure it fits in my home Razz

I remember the days when I wanted to buy that just as a stand-alone controller. I never really considered it for integrating it into a cabinet because every cabinet with these arcade controls looked terrible so in the end, I just bought a full-on arcade cab with even better controls. I know there's plenty of packs you can buy for the X-Arcade but I don't personally like any of them. They look too "American" (read: fat and overblown) to me.

For example:

Yeah a lot of people with the controls go the ugly way, but when someone is crafty they can end up with a nice one that has it completely integrated.

If I'd build one with it, I would so not do it like the picture above. There are enough ways you could figure out to have it sleek yet removable.

Late reply but be sure to post pics of the end result.

I'm kinda thinking of getting a Steam controller for my own cabinet. It's pretty much the most portable device that sort of functions like a mouse and some games require mouse in the menus.
