Yeah so...I'm in "vacation" for two weeks. For the whole freaking week my phone went off far too many times. Not even emergencies...stupid shit like "I can't see my viewing pane in outlook" or even more stupid shit like "my headphones are not working"..."are they plugged in? ...no". What the fuck. The boss lady specifically said when I had to go Thursday at work because of an emergency that I should be contacted only if the server room is on fire or general activity can't be resumed after a restart by my programmer colleague.

Got called today. It's possible I'm paraphrasing this a little considering I had enough of this shit.

Absolutely technically illiterate financial director:"I need an out of office notification set up".
Me, trying my best not to sound annoyed: "Yeah well, that's funny since I am out of office. You'd have known this if you'd have used the ticketing system I have put in place specifically for issues such as this"
FD: "Well, it's important I have out of office"
Me:"Yeah well I'm on the beach right now"
FD:"But it's raining"
Me:"I have an umbrella"

Anyway, she got pissed and went to the boss lady and the boss lady called me and asked me to close my work phone so I guess that's a...plus? I guess. In any case, for someone being so stiff, she sure is very reasonable about my vacation. Especially when I have two other colleagues that can more or less to minor stuff like this but no one bothers calling them.

I both love and hate this job.

Somewhat great but not really.

Fairly difficult in the current mail server since you have to log onto it with an ftp client and set the forward and message files to send ooo messages. Once the upgrade is done though, it'll be piece of cake, but the budget for that is still under discussion considering I did a ton of improvements especially with regards to the call center infrastructure and active directory. However, stuff like the mail sv and security gateway were left at the end because the machines they are on are fine and so is the software and licenses running on them, however they could use a hardware upgrade or get them virtualized on the main host since there's still some ram left for that. In any case, I'm in vacation so this shouldn't happen considering I have a colleague which handles everything peripheral related...let's call him a trainee and my programmer colleague which is much more versed in linux than I and could have easily set up an ooo for her considering I specifically showed him how.
