With the decline and fall of CD and DVD-ROMs on-line distribution has taken a huge step forward, meanwhile sometimes you can't be online so how do you install something ? Well, Microsoft will sell Windows 10 on USB-sticks, and yes that is the next logical step.

On Amazon you can already order the sticks, however the delivery time will be August. Microsoft Windows 10 Home will cost 119 USD, Microsoft Windows 10 Home Pro is a steep 199.99 USD. In the USA these prices are level with Windows 8.1. Microsoft Windows 10 Home would cost 135 EURO in the EU, 20 EURO more expensive opposed to Windows 8.1 The Pro version will cost 165 EURO.

After a quick check on EU stores, the USB-Stick versions are not yet available for pre-order. Obviously you can upgrade for free from Windows 7 and and 8.1

Yeah, because this forum is a busy bee.

This is a big change in the medium on which software is sold. And OSes sold on USB sticks is a perfect way to simplify the process.

Shut up son

problem with software on usb sticks is -> its more expensive, in every way. first the sticks costs more than a simple dvd and second the way you get the data on it.

this way to distribute software wont be standard in the near future

I've never bought software that was on usb stick. Always got it on cd or dvd.
So for it beeing the standard for the last 10 years, not really.

if you limit the software market to your own narrow view of a "microsoft-only-market" you can indeed make such claim as you did... but our linux community is already selling usb sticks with live operating systems and installers since +10 years and these can even be made free of charge by any individual in possession of an internet connection and a shitty usb key

lmao he thinks we have a narrow view and he is the one that considers software-on-USB the standard for a decade because his linux community sells free software ... or something.
