Quote:
After the recent success of the new coloured cases and keycaps for the C64 such as blue, black and red, it probably wouldn't surprise you to know that new case molds are also being created for the Amiga. Although this was mentioned a few days ago, we decided to wait and see if this project was actually coming and not just a rumour. Sure enough through our Commodore Amiga Facebook group of over 10,000 members, Philippe Lang has announced new Amiga case molds and also the possibility of different colours!

Ho~ly shit. Now that's a glorious product of gloriousness! So Much Win It's a shame it's only an A500 though, but I guess being a lower-spec dual core system has something to do with that, need a bit more grunt to handle A1200 properly.

~edit~

Eghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that price is excessive IMO. Now that the site has loaded I can see that it's €170. For a Cubieboard2 and a custom case/floppy drive? Even the non-FDD version is €120. Again, just for a Cubieboard2 and a custom case.

Egh.

Its cool but expensive...especially as you can get a raspberry to emulate Amiga (but unfortunatly it has some minor flaws) and lots of other platforms at the same time.

Yup, this is basically just a slightly more powerful Pi1 and a much less powerful Pi2, for double and triple and quadruple the price - you can even get the new Orange Pi Mini 2 which is a 1.6Ghz quad-core A7 for $30. The FDD is a fantastic option, really and truly, for those with large Amiga collections - but egh, €120 for the non-FDD is just excessive. Still... damned good IDEA! Very Happy

~edit~

I think I upset/offended the creator when I said that this was underpowered and overpriced Sad Sad Sad

For all the Amiga fans on the board Very Happy A $25 drive that emulates floppy disk images when loaded with a special firmware, great for those that don't have/want to mess with HDDs. Just load up to 999 ADF images onto a USB stick and bam! Winner!

There are a couple of more of those around - I still have not decided which one I want.

Supposedly they all use the same chipset and are all compatible with the Amiga firmware, so pick one that's cheap and cheerful Very Happy

I never had an Amiga but if they could release one with VGA output and USB stick support, I'd definitely buy it. It's the one home computer I really wish I had as a kid (along with many others ).

Smile

It's not cheap (by my broke-ass standards, heh) but yep.. it's as close to what you want as you're going to get without going insane modding a full hardware Amiga. HDMI though.. so I'm not sure if you meant VGA *specifically* -- failing the ARMiga as an option, simply get an A500+, A600 or A1200 and one of these;

http://amigastore.eu/en/207-amiga-rgb-to-vga-monitor-adapter.html

and one of these;

I have no hands on experience with one so I really couldn't say, but it seems Amiga fanatics everywhere else are loving it. Many Amiga modding services offer Gotek installation options from what I've seen and the ability to load up to 999 ADFs from a single USB stick as opposed to 999 floppy disks? Well that just sounds awesome Very Happy

Yeah, I found a guy in Sweden who sells one...but its 250SEK...perhaps I can find one cheaper. Also, I do know they dont really fit in an amiga case - but maybe if one removes the plastic case round it you can reduce its size enough to make it fit...dunno. I sure as hell wont damage one of my retro computers for new hardware.

It looks like it fits okay? Obviously you have to remove the existing floppy drive though grinhurt

I completely understand not wanting to damage or wreck one of your vintage systems though.

Actually, judging from that picture I must agree that it looks ok. Perhaps it was some other model that forced you to modify the case. Smile Dunno bout the price I found it for though...

250SEK is what? $30? If the guy includes INSTALL for that, then go for it! Otherwise, meh, I posted an eBay link above with the drive selling for $23 with $0.50 shipping to Sweden. The Amiga USB firmware is free to download from the link above too, you just need a serial cable to flash the Gotek drive and perhaps an Amiga floppy>IDE floppy cable.. I'm unsure of the Amiga internals and compatibility. You'd know better than I would Smile

Either way, read the link you quoted.. the creator of the firmware goes into immense detail about the firmware, the drive, the components and the usage.

Edit: I paid $35 for my C64 case....the A1200 one starts at €79. I think ill have to pass on this one. Thats ~3 times more than the c64 one!
