|
 |
I've got a VT60 Plasma. It is capable of 3D and thus should somehow allow 120 Hz inputs (60Hz 3D).
Is there anyway to force this somehow using a GTX 580?
I have tried adding a custom resolution via Nvidia CP with 1080p @ 120 Hz, and 720p @ 120 Hz. I haven't tried to fiddle with the timings though, as I have no idea what could actually help.

As far as i know on Nvidia the monitor/hdtv needs to be "3D vision ready" and i cannot find that VT60 plasma on their list.

I can't really remember everything but you use 3DTV Play (which is now free if you have 3D Vision). I think the problem is bandwidth over HDMI at 1080p @120hz...?

As @Newty182 said, one big issue would be the bandwidth limitations for HDMI. Even if your TV supports the HDMI 1.4b spec (that has the 1080p120 support), I don't think that GTX 580 does.

I dont know if the TV actually supports 1080p120 and I was pretty surprised, that some of the professional panasonic displays actually seem to support it.
If the GTX 580 wasn't capable of it, would I be able to set it to 1080p120 as a custom resolution resulting in a black screen? Because thats what happens. Also sound over HDMI keeps working even at that point. Is that expected behaviour?

it could be, i had a dodgy cable between my projector and htpc that would do that at 120hz but worked fine at 50 / 60hz

well if it lets you set it to 120hz (without faking it) it suggests tge eeid is saying it supports it.
i know on my box i can use xrandr to see all possible settings, no idea how to do it in windows.
