|
 |
im not sure if i read about this on that forum a few weeks ago, but now my receiver died too. doesnt light up. seems removing the f1 fuse inside should fix that, but question: the fuse is there cause of a reason. just removing it shouldnt be done? found replacing fuses, ~90 cent. but with 20 euro shipping... kinda sucks, anyone did that fix here?

fuse have a simple role. protect main expensive stuff from bad things. like power surge.
if you replace it and does not again blow up, the problem was a one time thing. ofcourse, until next time.
anyway, 1' see if the fuse is the issue. use a battery and a led if you dont have a tester.
2' any electronic store should have them. you dont have any store around ?
3' write to microsoft support, sometimes they are nice enough to send you a replacement. they sent me a wireless controller for a mouse.

have a few stores around, but always when i needed small stuff they werent able to get the right pieces... just opened it, the fuse looks good -> not blown and its fucking small...

for this type of fuse you need a continuity tester to check it, not visual.
anyway, seems like is a 250ma one, so buy a regular 250ma fuse (glass cilinder), take the wire from inside out, use a solder iron (the one which take time to heat, like a pen, not the instant one with the trigger like a gun) to solder that wire to the metalic ends, on between the points on the backplate.

if its the fuse it should blink up if use a screw or a small metalthing to connect both ends right? gonna check it out tomorrow, first gonna ask in the shop. found a ten pack on ebay with fuses which should work fine for 1,99 and free shipping (http://www.ebay.de/itm/10x-SEHR-FLINK-Feinsicherung-0-5A-32V-SMD-0603-VERY-FAST-ACTING-SMD-FUSE-/321489071113 || similar to the recommended littlefuse things from that blog where i found a tutorial)

mine died too, I wanted to do it nicely with wires and stuff but then the fuse fell off
then I just put a blob of solder where the fuse once was, its been working ever since (over 2 years ago)

yes thats working, but its not the clean way to repair it. it may even end up dangerous if the device catches fire because the fuse is just bypassed
safe to remove the old one with force? (i.e. screwdriver) and solder the new one? or do i have to solder it out?

no force ever, you can damage the board.
just use a small tweezer and heat up the ends. (you need one for the soldering anyway)
or if board permits just solder on the back side.
still, try to test it, it may be ok, and something else is broken.
if you dont have a tester with a continuity test, get a battery, 2 wires, a led and try to close the circuit trough fuse.
btw, i think that fuse is for protecting mb usb ports, so dont attempt to use anything else beside a 250ma wire/fuse.

so its a bad idea to use a 0,5a fuse instead of 0,25a? cause 0,5a is the only cheap one to get (if the stores dont have anything)

tbh, no ideea. i did some custom projects on rpi and i used a premade board with an 140ma fuse to protect usb ports.
usb ports/chip should be protected by mb itself with polyfuses anyway (usually), but i would not use a double value fuse.
http://www.tandyonline.co.uk/250ma-250v-5x20mm-fast-acting-glass-fuse-3pk.html those ones should be very common for a test. like i said just use the wire inside.

just checked it with a multimeter, it must be the fuse which is blown. but the double value fuse should not break that easy like a normal 0,25?
u mean i should get a glass fuse, break it, and use only the wire to connect both points and bam ok? smd fuses are hard to get here with 0,25. unless i wanna pay 7 euros shipping, in that case its cheaper to buy a new receiver

yep, just solder the wire, it should work.
double value fuse would let a curent up to 500ma to pass.
the normal fuse would allow only 250ma. personally i would not be ok with a double value. up to 300 ? maybe. 500 ? no.

and it works as a fuse too? cause its the wire from the fuse? im sorry for dumb questions, i know how to solder circuits with switches etc pp, but i just dont have a clue about fuses. and is it ok to shorten the wire ur does it need that special lenght cause of some electricity stuff?

yeh that wire is the fuse, defined by material and diameter and it will burn/intrerupt if a >250ma current travel trough it. length does not matter.
