Not many around here will care about this (evidenced by the lack-of-interest about the phenomenal Castlevania title put out for Speccy recently) but I saw this and thought of.... someone but I can't remember who it was We were all talking about the C64 "demakes" of popular games and the Majami Hiroz video of Blood Dragon (or Vice City, I forget which.. sigh) and how it wasn't "accurate" since the C64 couldn't do scrolling that smooth.
The C64 was amazing and was absolutely capable of gloriously smooth scrolling --- it just needed a REALLY talented dev to get the most out of it. This looks magnificent! <3
i don't get what there is to be impressed by
another mario bros/giana sisters clone
i'll be impressed by doing something interesting with gameplay
or a deeply complex scene demo

NOBODY is impressed by this!? Ankh? Pumpy? Red_Avatar? A_A?
Didn't saw this, but this is fucking amazing! I guess some sort of limitations were applied to the active objects in the front but we are talking about a C64, with 64kb memory, there HAVE to be limits
@Drowning_witch: Well the palette of the c64 isn't that great. It's either Super Slumdog Brothers, Super Cheng Brothers, Super Little Foot Brothers or Super King of Nigeria Brothers

If you had a C64 back in the early 80s, you'd understand the level of "" at this. The C64 was amazing but very rarely fully tapped and very few games had purely perfect smooth scrolling like this, whilst maintaining Master System/NES levels of visual quality.

It's also very distinctive too, you can always tell a C64 game by the palette I'm most impressed not just with the smooth scrolling of background *and* main sprite, but also the animation too.. the main sprite has plenty of frames of animation and even the "death" animation of enemies is animated nicely.
This is a labour of love *and* technical prowess, that's for sure.
Yeah that's some smooth scrolling, how many fps is it running at? Is it like that on the original hardware?
Supposedly yes, that's exactly how it looks on the hardware and they haven't even mentioned the SuperCPU too, so I think this is meant to be stock C64. I'm waiting to see some gameplay footage and perhaps a demo
Sam's Journey - Impressive C64 Metamorphosis, Part 2: Sam in Black update!
Quote:
You may remember our previous update titled 'Part 1 A Pirate's Life For Sam', which shows off Sam's special abilities such as being able to pick up items, carry them around and throw at enemies as a pirate. But this time Sam has gone even further, he's become a Ninja in the latest trailer of 'Metamorphosis, Part 2: Sam in Black'
This continues to impress the hell out of me, I'm genuinely blown away by what the devs have managed to do with the C64. I'm a C64 nut, always was and always will be, but even I recognise and understand that C64 ports were invariably poor quality in comparison to other home systems - with the exception of the audio - but this game is really showing just what the C64 was truly capable of in dedicated hands, easily rivalling the NES/MS of the time. I can't get over how smooth the scrolling and varied the animation
This is looking better and better Now they've got an overworld map, similar to Mario 3/World, and even more costumes. HOW!? How have they done all this on the C64?? It boggles my mind
Knights of Bytes, the creators behind the incredible looking C64 platformer 'Sam's Journey', which 90% of the public thought was an April fools when it was announced by us FIRST in 2015, has once again appeared in our news feeds as now being up for pre-orders. With lots of huge levels to explore, plus hidden items to be found in a game full of amazing detail, the developer has shocked the community as you can pre-order the game right now as a disk, cartridge or even digital download through protovision.
