wouldnt care about the 3d shit, and with your gfx card its nonsense cause the card couldnt handle it good enough. you shoudnt have any disadvantages if your card couldnt handle stable 120fps in games compared to a 60hz monitor. but even on the desktop i think 120hz feels better than 60hz (although i dont own a 120/144hz display myself). but remember you need a dual link dvi cable for 120hz @ full hd. make sure u use the right dvi port (if the card only has one dual link port)

dual link means not you need both dvi outputs Wink only mentioned it cause some cards have two dvi ports but only one is capable of dual link

nope, not enough bandwidth. and as i said: hdmi isnt supposed to be used with computers in the first way. its missing color information cause its only capable of rgb 16-235 whilst dvi can handle the spectrum from 0 to 255

DisplayPort should work as well if the GPU and your monitor has support for it. Smile
(Newer revisions of HDMI might work too but I am unsure how common they are or if it's only for the new 2.0 revision which is as of yet not as common.)

that's false. HDMI can do full RGB 0-255 just fine, just like DVI. but for high res and high refresh rate displayport is what you want, as both HDMI and DVI are too limiting in this regard.

it's not HDMI's fault both nvidia and amd have year 2005 thinking that all HDMI devices are TVs that can't do anything more than limited RGB or can't do full 1:1 scaling. i've been exclusively using HDMI for my monitor and tv for 4-5 years now and haven't had a single problem, except where i had to use RGB full range patch for nvidia drivers, but now they fixed that in drivers and i don't even need that.

I have been running my HDTV over HDMI in Full RGB mode for a few years now and I didn't see any overscan issues either. Bandwidth is something they keep increasing with each spec, but yes, it's lagging behind and it is mainly a "home theater" type multimedia standard.
It doesn't suck for PCs - it is the second best option you have after Display Port and the only one if you want to output surround audio with no constraints (although this is due to lack of hardware with DP inputs for that purpose and not the limitations of DP itself).

By that logic a huge number of motherboards suck for PCs because you can't install more than one GPU on them. It has its place and use. It can't do everything, but that doesn't mean it sucks Razz

At the very least I'd rather have and HDMI option on my PC for my HT system, since not everyone is nice enough to supply a DP/HDMI adapter.
