Ive been using tplink wn722n for usb and its not great. Its taking usb slot, sticking out like a sore thumb and dropping out from time to time.
Router is in the same room and its a good n router from tplink. 450mbps 3 antenas. No need for ac aince I have almost no neighbours and only 1 other wifi network around. That and I have only 100mbps connection.

So I probably just need some pci card with 2 antenas coming out of back? Range is not a problem at all as pc is standing on desk. I just dont want to see it.

What are You guys using? I could use powerline probably but pci card should be cleaner and cheaper.

This, any special reason for it that you are using wireless on desktop?

yep, dont use wireless crap if its not needed at all.

if you dont wanna see the cable -> buy flat ethernet cables (dunno the correct english term), yes the isolation isnt great cause its flat and not round but for short distances its more than enough. you can hide it behind the skirting boards (i assume you done have any empty pipes in the wall where you could pull a cable through from one end to the other of the room)

Cable all the way. For browsing wifi should do the trick but for "serious" downloads and pew pew multiplayer cable all the way.

Wifi is so web2.0 Smile

Or the wisest decision: dont use anything at all. No need for brainwash Very Happy

Same as the other guys. Unless its a requirement due to no possible way to get cable there, go some sort of wired. Even using AC wireless with it in the next room, I have yet to see a use for wireless on a stationary PC. Every case scenario I've come across its just an effort in 'let me gimp my speeds, and double my ping to everything'.

Not to sound all "CAT cable master race". But I avoid wireless at all cost in my house other than for phone and tablets, even under the best situations and cases, the speed/signal varies randomly, ping is all over the place (30ms one minute, 160ms the next).

Edit: Wasn't jumping in being all high and mighty about the wireless. Just a round about way of I cant recommend anything. Even friend with nice router and decent internal card for 802.11 AC bitches about his from time to time. So I cant think of anything Id recommend in good conscious.

I agree. Putting CAT7 cable in all the rooms in my house was a priority over putting windows in them.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

There is balcony door between pc and router ao I cant hide the cable.

I am getting full speed on my usb wifi adapter. 100% signal and over 90mbps download out of my 100mbps connection so I wouldnt call it crap. Ping is about 20ms so not bad too
I just wanted something less visible and stable because usb is not.

How about tp link wn851nd ?

until someone moves in into your building with a 20 years old fridge Razz

you said its the same room, so where does that balcony door come from? does it seperate 2 indoor rooms? just drill a hole Wink plan b: either move the routers location or the pc

Well I tried both.

Got wn851nd pci 300mb card and at least its not dropping out compared to usb.. but it sucks anyway because speeds vary from 10 to 80mbits.

and this is what I get on daisy chain of 3 cables laying around

(yes, upload is that shitty with my isp)
its night speed. during day its 100

yeah... I am getting a cable. I will need 7 to 10 meters... cat5,6,7 ? any difference ?
I mean, I have rj plugs and clamping tool. I just lack a wire this long and will to hide it Crying or Very sad

... I am done with this wireless bs
Edit: ok nevermind...bought 15m 5e cable. Even with plugs. Didnt know those cables are so dirt cheap

everything till 100m is fine and wont cause trouble. cat 5e is enough for gbit lan too

but if you plan to hide them in the future in the ball-> buy a cable without plugs and mount wall sockets on it

I ran that 15 meters cable throught corner baseboards all the way through 2 walls and balcony. It required some hassle but I am finally free of wifi while having it available for all my wireless devices Very Happy

during day I get 103mbits. So we will see this night if I connected everything right and speed will double to 200m like when I was testing last night

Does nighttime affect your wiring?
