I'm thinking on getting a new gaming laptop (no desktops for me for now, otherwise my gf won't see me anymore Laughing )

At this moment, I have two candidates:
- MSI GT72 2QE Dominator Pro
- Alienware 17 (2015)

They're the numbers 3 and 2 in this vid (#1 is so over the top it's silly Smile ):

While the Alienware has the better CPU, the MSI has potentially more RAM and a better graphics card (GTX980M 8GB over 4GB).

I currently have an Alienware, and while it has it's quirks (2013 model is known to have issues with CPU cooling), I do very much like the overall quality and robustness. MSI looks a bit feable in comparison, but maybe that's just my impression.

What would you guys recommend? Are there perhaps other, better models?

Get a 2nd desktop, put it at her place, win. Cool Face

Even better: buy two new desktops if you're spending that kind of money... maybe you can co-op some more instead of just the bedroom Poker Face

I always go for the GIGABYTEs

They're thinner than most, powerful, and cheaper

That's what I have with a 970M.

I had an Alienware once and it was so thick, hot, and generally feel like cheap plastic garbage (not that any are actually built that well).

If I had to choose out of the above I'd get the MSI.

Yeah, the burn marks on my legs do get painful after a while Very Happy

Those GIGABYTEs are pretty sweet. The P37X model (17" screen is a must Smile ) looks really slick for everything it has inside.

Finding a store that sells/delivers to Belgium might be problematic though...

Actually, we're already living together. But with a laptop I can at least sit in the living room Very Happy

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.

Yeah, that's basically it Very Happy Alienware is heavy though, 5kg to torse around.

In terms of RAM, will 16GB be enough for the next couple of years? There are models that can go to 32, but I'm not sure how much of an overkill that really is.

Whatever 'high end' laptop you get, be next to a power source at most times. You will need it Wink

If you live in the UK or in Europe, you can try pcspecialist, I got mine from them and it's working like a dream. Not prefab laptops, but custom built with the stuff you select.
