It’s a gorgeous remake of the free survival/exploration game, Under The Garden in which your blue chap must strike out into the surrounding wilderness to find food and shelter.
Under the Ocean’s simplicity is part of its charm, but the way its objects interact is so sensible that the logical solutions that emerge feel almost ingenious. It’s the antithesis of your typical overly complex, contrived adventure game puzzle. It’s refreshing, and wonderfully serene.
Under the Ocean is still in an early stage of development, but you can follow its progress on the Under The Garden site, where you can pre-order now and help the two-man team bring Under the Ocean into the open.
already pre-ordered this one, instant buy, barely even had to watch the vlog video, loved the first one and $5 is a hell of a good price.
they're doing the access to alpha/beta builds thing also which is why i put the $5 down so early, but from what i can tell it seems like it probably may not be out of pre-alpha for a month or so possibly.
new screenshot posted to twitter, apparently he's working on the tilesets right now, looking spiffy already, i had to wonder how/if it was going to be easy to distinguish small items on the ground from the ground with the old ones but this looks way better.
also, i've heard first alpha is the 31st of this month.
[edit] changed the image link from twitter to the usual in case twitter requires you to signup to view [/edit]
[edit] while this is technically offtopic the dude does seem desperate for funding for his other game rambros, personally i can't be arsed but it doesn't look bad, may want to take a look if only to shut him up a little, i do kinda feel sorry about not giving a shit about this other game honestly but.... damn, i knew what i wanted before i wanted it [/edit]
Haven't started the vlog yet, but shouldn't be far off, maybe today, or at the latest tommorow, we have been working on the construction system over the weekend, building prefabs for the levels (bridges, supports and stuff, and building a few items to populate the levels.
woo hoo, looks like friday (i'm hoping) we'll get the second v-log. that was posted on the 27th.
It's been a while since our last update, and it's well past our expected release date, so I thought I'd write a quick update email.
We ended up adding a whole bunch more features into the first Alpha than we were expecting to; dynamic water, a range of animals, a whole bunch of items, diseases, clothing, a huge graphical update, and the ability to level edit.
It's nearly ready to go though! We've uploaded a short preview video here:
Sure is easy to die in this game, a lot of stuff to manage as well and a lot of conditions to try and balance.
Difficult but fun.
(Died by drowing, died by starving, died by being stung - 159 times - by bees - died by stepping on crab - bled out - and I died by being eaten by a shark just recently as I tried to explore the ocean.)
EDIT: Posting that URL was a bit redundant it seems.

Islands can have different size, shape, terrain, lighting, weather, starting equipment, tools, weapons, animals, plants, backstories and more.
Some islands are pleasant, others are impossible - Good Luck!
not canned he just want to release it when its done and not get paid for alpha/beta from what i understood , he si just bailing from EA as he dont like the EA
Mike has left the party.
So this has been quite awhile coming it seems, progress has been crawling of late (as you well have might noticed) since we ran out of money at the end of last year, will cut to the chase...
Michael Reitzenstein (the projects programmer) has left the project. Circumstances have changed for Mike and it was really great working with him but he has decided to move on, due to differences in opinion about the future direction of the game.
So where does this leave the project without a programmer? Well, it leaves just me left, out of money and maybe against better judgement and out of sheer stubbornness, I am not quitting, I will not declare this project dead. I don't care how long this takes, I don't care how hard, I WILL finish this project, by myself if that's what it takes. I made a promise to finish this project and that is exactly what I plan to do, against all odds.
This news will obviously come as a huge blow to everyone awaiting alpha 9, as it means what we know as alpha 9 today will have to be shelved and completely rebuild with my (limited) programming ability. Before you descend into nasty remarks or anything of that nature, know Mike and I have been trying for the longest time to try and get this thing out, and this has been one of the hardest posts Ive had to make in my life, whatever emotion you feel for this, multiply that by a year of work for a missed goal.
So lets talk financials, but I will be doing something that I have wanted to do for some time while working on alpha 9, I will be de-listing the game from Steam until a decent build is available, I think this makes the most sense as I don't want to deceive people into thinking the game is one thing when it is not. So as soon as I can hook it up, this game will be de-listed. As far as refunds, as I mentioned before I don't have enough money to pay them at the moment, so when/if sales start to happen again, I can start offering them again, but right now refunds are coming out of my (non existent) bank balance, I may need to work part-time to keep the dream alive, but more importantly feed my son. I will make a post when the project starts making money again so you can start asking again.
EDIT: The games store-page has been de-listed, thanks Jason/Steam.
IMHO they made a mistake by trying to change the whole game to full 3D. Seems like a lot of work. Should have finished what they had first, then work on another sequel.
