I was looking through some older topics today while trying to find something and noticed how different things were and how they improved since. Hardware, games etc. I also noticed how certain things hadn't, such as game mechanics and IQs.

Anyway, what do you think we'll have by 2025? And what we most likely won't? If we're all still alive in another 10 years it might be interesting to look back on.

IF I'm still alive and IF I'm still sane and into gaeming I hope that somehow, no matter what the next step will be (occulus or some other shit), the PC platform from today survives just like the stuff from 10 years ago did.
That my iCrap15/andurroid16 somehow lets me connect a keyboard and mouse instead of using mind control to operate the ol' windows emulator, and having crapssassins le crap finally running at 1440p @ 60fps while still kicking the balls of my nDerpia quantum 890.

Shows where I'm at today too: more interested in the stuff that's already out (and some of them for a while) than in anything being released in the near future.

I think gaming as we know it will be gone, eaten by greedy publishers and diluted to the point that interest will wane. If you look back 25 years ago, gaming was new, uncorrupted by the interests of profit, and much more about the game.

Already today, games are being developed with the sole purpose of making money, and definitely to the detriment of the gaming experience. Imagine in another 10 years from now. Assassin's Creed XV is out, but with more DLC than the core game. Sales are already dwindling, and instead of innovation, which would cost money and hours to develop, greedy publishers just shovel out more and more DLC to the same game engine developed 10 years previously.

The way things are going, we'll be seeing another 1980's video game crash.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Seeing how everything goes to the crapper and quality goes down... We'd be lucky if they could still program the games they make these days.

I dunno... somehow I see our society fall within my lifetime. And my estimate is between now and 50 years.

I know I know, way too optimistic... on those 50 years Razz Laughing

• Further casualization of games resulting in making consoles as popular as mobile phones in groups of all ages

• Complete digitalization of sales on both consoles and PC, perhaps only CEs will get a physical release; all games are stored in individual user's cloud

• Either Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo release their own phone(s) that allow emulation from the get go and are supported, some of the titles will be cross-buy (buy a game here, get another copy on PC/PSVI/Xbox1080

According to my analysis facebook will buy the devs of The Sims (maxis) and instead replace the PC's with your friends. It's hard to explain but sims and facebook will kinda merge and you will do your status updates ingame. It kinda will be your second life.

ahh and at that point the Obox will ruin sony and microsoft:

* Crysis will still be a benchmark.

* Your average gamer will look back at the games of today the same way we look back at the games of yesterday. In other words COD will be the new Doom.

* Games integrated into the family home so you can play a turd even while doing one.

The year is 2025. After ages of technological advancements, everything is now finally, fully online-based and completely seamless. Only a handful of desperate rebels, purely basement dwellers from the pre-2000s, still miss the laughable and obsolete concept of single player experience. Just ignore them. Such individuals will disappear as soon as our automatic customer service Fahregaming 451 will personally take care of them, blocking all their altered illegal accounts permanently.

It wasn't an easy task, and it took us many attempts and prototypes, but the tedious mouse and keyboard architectures are now a thing of the past. This is a giant step. They've been replaced and merged into a more exhaustive, cinematic-ready VR device equipped with one single, accessible analogic and sensorial button which allows for multiple genres and variety of Quick Time Events, from Action games to hardcore RPGs like the upcoming Dragon Age: The Bull Dynasty.
It was Microsoft's decision to introduce the first universal device suitable to all the gaming systems, and Sony with Nintendo decided to agree to their terms as well at the E3 2021, for a future that is now looking brighter and truly accessible to anyone. It is still possible to upgrade/replace your hardware of course, as long as it doesn't exceed the consoles' specifications. Discrimination is no longer allowed, and this is a victory for everyone.

Thankfully, piracy no longer exists either. The fantastic conjunction between our strong, server-based, online DRMs and physical ones like the Denuvo Deluxe v5 (brilliantly introduced back in 2019 by Ubisoft) are now preventing any kind of illegal activities, including the side ones, like modding/decrypting game files which is now rightfully treated as a first class crime, on par with robbery and theft.

As for buying games, today it's easier and more convenient than ever. After the death of Gabe Newell back in 2018 (heart attack on stage, moments before announcing the iconic -now dismantled- HL3 project), the stale concept of proposing downloadable contents, early access and pre-ordering started to get gradually abandoned, since we noticed that the percentages were drastically going down and the statistics looking suspiciously grim.
Therefore, with the swift implementation of our mandatory online-only service and account subscription with small weekly fee*, we now take care of all your funds by automatically selecting and buying the games that we believe are suitable to your (mandatory as well, but incredibly useful and handy) FaceGame 3.0 profile.
We also administrate the updating/patching processes for such gaming software on daily basis, with costs that are incredibly competitive and will not hamper your savings.

*all devolved to the Feminist Frequency Reborn, responsible for rating and selecting our extensive gaming catalog

I actually think pc gaming will remain and console gaming will die and replaced by tablet/portable gaming.

As for the 4k as standard remark I don't know if we will get there or not, performance will always suffer running it. Games in ten years will still run better at 1080p

- PC gaming will be based solely on text based and ascii games
- You will be billed monthly for the privilege of playing game
- Every game will be subscription based or have in-game transactions
- EA is finally recognized for their innovations in gaming
- You will have to buy at least one product from the in-game transactions
- If not EA customer service will make a force entry and stab you in the lung
- Kinect is the only controler
- Consoles will finally support 4K but only in 30 fps
- But that's fine because - motion blur
- Microsoft HAL 9000 will save PC gaming
- Oculusbook comes with the bodily reclamation kit, no need to use those pesky toilets anymore
- You no longer own games on Steam, Steam owns you
- Most games will be about how hard is life in patriarchal world - YOU MISOGYNISTIC, CHAUVINISTIC SCAM, STOP STARE - THOUGHT ME
