Hi guys

Just swiped myself a new msi 970 and im massively underwhelmed.

I checked out bench's etc and bought the MSI 970 gaming (im fully aware of vram-gate)

so im firing up games to check performance against benchmarks and im dissapointed.

for example, loaded up black flag.

at max settings (and all manner of AA option tested) I dont really get more than 50fps , this is at 1080p and terrible stutter

tried dayz standalone for a laugh and still get the same as i got on my 660, around 30fps in town around 55 otherwise.

checked gpu and cpu while playing black flag, neither of which exceed 60% useage. Anyone shed any light on this (i7 and 8gb ram also)

Yeah, I'll still stick with the 700 series for now. The 900 series is pretty disappointing from Nvidia, unless your into 'ePeni' figures that is Smile Don't get me wrong, if you have no 700 series, then by all means, grab the 970, as its a great 'bang for buck' card.

On another note...

Funny (not) how Nvidia is lockin them mobile 970's down now via drivers, WTF is with that?

Try something that doesn't run like shit on all hardware.

yeah i know i know, even benchmarking using valley and heaven seem to be coming in a couple of hundred points below the benchmarks on same settings (with similar setups)

When you say your CPU hasn't exceeded 60% usage are you sure it's not maxing out a single core? That's enough to bottleneck the game, it doesn't matter if other cores are free. Therefore you would be CPU bound and better GPU won't contribute to better performance.

Black Flag is notoriously CPU limited. It's impossible to exceed 60fps even with a top-of-the-line Haswell. What CPU are you running?

It's the games that are disappointing you, not the card.

I'm running a 2500 non-k, so I doubt it since I'm happy with most games... then again he could always have an AMD Cool Face

DAYZ WTF ARE YOU DOING

People with 5k machines get 20 fps in towns in that game

Why dont you sit down and do some Heaven & Valley benchmarks...

already mentioned that I have above.....jesus. after your input of "nuub" I'm not on the edge of my seat for your analysis.

@zip, I already said I know! I just fired up a game that notoriously runs bad to see improvement. I wasn't using it as a benchmark.

As I mentioned earlier people with extreme preset on valley/heaven are getting around the 2300 mark, whereas im getting around the 2000 mark

Maxing out the settings and ramping up the AA and then getting bad fps doesn't mean ANYTHING. Games are fucking retarded and those 8x AA settings at >1080p resolutions are total overkill...

I'm just gonna repeat myself because this is almost certainly your problem: Check your CPU usage per core, it's probably maxing out on a single core. 2600K at 3.4Ghz isn't particularly fast, mine is at 4.5Ghz and plenty of games are still CPU bound.

I saw it, wanted too see what kind of mastery of wit and language he could come up with, didn't want to miss his Oscar Wilde worthy reply. I was not dissapointed. The kid replys with "nuub" which he promptly deletes ( twas another stroke of literal genius and comedy no doubt) then provides nothing constructive short of " its your fault" sometimes I wonder if 12 year old internet big men can get any more retarded, and somebody always proves me right.

The games that you've tested are weird beasts indeed, like it's already been said (AC because Ubibaboons, DayZ because..well Arma engine), but the 60% usage is weird indeed and not normal. Sometimes that could depend on having the v-sync enabled, though it could be some kind of preemptive measure when the card is either overclocked or is experiencing wrong temps. Are those fine? Razz

The most banal thing would be to do a clean drivers reinstall (including the MSI software), but other than that..I don't know :<. As for the CPU, what Bearish said, with the core that could be bottlenecked.
In any case, you're not alone on this, 157 pages and counting! https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/781982/geforce-drivers/nvidia-geforce-gtx-900-series-feedback-gathering-low-gpu-load-and-other-issues-/157/

Seriously, having a 2600k but still on 3.4GHz and then complains about not noticing GPU upgrade Laughing

OC that cpu to 4.1-4.2GHz (and turn off the turbo boost) with just the multiplier (which is 110% safe) and you will see improvement.
