They haven't even released the first one and already announced the second part?

Awesome news, since having more of these is always great (feels like the 90s men); but I'd like them to properly finish Pillars #1 first, you never know with Obsi involved.

Well, it's how production works. Once it gets to this stage there's really nothing to do for artists, writers and designers, so there's no point in not working on something new. Wheter I'm glad it's Pillars 2 remains to be seen - from what I can gather it looks like a great, old school game and an interesting setting though, so it might be very good news - the more of these games, the merrier, after all.
As for their confidence in it selling well - that's the beauty of Kickstarter: it really doesn't have to. It's already paid for. Whatever they sell will cover additional costs they probably suffered during production and then work towards a hefty profit. Besides, considering the media buzz and Obsidian brand it's almost a sure bet it'll sell pretty well.

I'm only hoping we won't have a giant cliffhanger and a sequel which might or might not be canned.

To me this is horrible news... you might think they want to wait for release and support their game properly before moving on/or putting a skeleton crew on it.

Nope. There'll be an old-style expansion however - around the size of Tales of the Sword Cost for BG1. And then the sequel.

Lets just hope it wont be more "polished", "accessible", "streamlined", "multiplatform", "focused on relationships" etc.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I doubt any dev studio puts all of their resources into patching after release. What would be the point of that?

As mentioned before, this is expected especially given how much they're making in sales from Steam alone. I mean it has been top for a couple of days I think. So that plus GoG plus from kickstarter.
So yes a sequel or an expansion is in the works, and since their artists won't have much to do (it's programmers and script guys who'll be fixing most of the bugs that come up) best put them to work on other things.
But what I want now is The Omega Directive which is a lot like Alpha Protocol but is totally not Alpha Protocol due to licensing issues.

Yeah they could do it like InXile. A small team is still working on patches and the GOTY Edition while everyone else is on Torment.

Haha . Thankfully seems that Pillars is doing well in terms of sales (first position on Steam like a boss) and reviews from them journos are positive too, which is quite shocking, even if IGN and Polygon haven't posted their opinions yet.
So maybe, maybe, there's hope for a solid renaissance that can go on for many years!

Well,The game with It's limited graphics and budget seems to make a fight With Dragon Age,the problem is,the series might be on consoles and of course will be needed to be "fitted in" for it...

Guess no one noticed it was a 2 month old comment (BEFORE THIS RELEASE!) and the article has been edited since.
And no I don't give much thought about the artists... I was talking about the key personnel that was dividing their time between a product still needing to be released and its sequel. But I guess we always need to assume the most retarded in everyone but yourself.
Edit:
to clarify: no I didn't mean patching with the support thing. I meant them fully supporting the game up till release, which is what you expect from key personnel.

The title of the game has been changed to "Pillars of Patriarchy". Anita will be asked to screen the problematic content.

I'll copy-paste Bob's news here, since we have a thread already (the Humps cannot into merging sadly)
Bob Barnsen wrote: | Pillars of Eternity II is in production - acknowledges Feargus Urquhart, Obsidian’s CEO
Quote: | During the Digital Dragons 2016 conference that is happening now in Kraków, we got a chance to meet amazing developers from all around the world. We also sat down with Feargus Urquhart, the CEO of Obsidian Entertainment, known for his work on Fallout series, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale or the critically acclaimed Pillars of Eternity. Obsidian also has another project in development – Tyranny – but Feargus said that they’re not ready to talk about it in more detail. However, during our interview with Obsidian’s CEO, we found out that the studio is already working on Pillars of Eternity II.
We were talking about the general idea of crowdfunding Obsidian’s games, Feargus said that they thought about crowdfunding Tyranny, but decided to do it on their own. However, they’re most probably going to turn to Kickstarter to crowdfund Pillars of Eternity II, and that’s when Feargus shared what they’re currently involved on:
Obviously, as you’ve probably guessed, we’re starting to move forward on [Pillars of] Eternity II. That is probably something that we want to look at [in terms of crowdfunding]. I think people felt like we delivered on our promise, and then that felt like we could go with Eternity II and people would support us again, because they trust us.
When we asked him about an official announcement of Pillars of Eternity II, that’s what he had to say:
Eternity II is not announced, [but] it seems silly for me not to acknowledge it, though. If someone asks “Are you working on it?”, I respond “Well, wouldn’t you work on it?”. So then they say “So you must be working on it”, and then I’m like “Well, yeah”. |
