NASCAR, the very popular circle-based sport, is coming back to video games. Developer DMi Games has acquired "certain NASCAR-related assets" from previous series dev Eutechnyx, and will partner with NASCAR Team Properties to acquire "certain exclusive licensing rights as part of a multi-year agreement.
DMi says it is "hard at work on several new games," including a new NASCAR racing sim for PC, PS4 and Xbox One set to launch in 2016.
There were oval cars and a stock car in pCars, but they removed them 2 months ago. The tracks were not really finished and I guess they will return as DLC. It was pretty fun racing at 250Km/h in an oval and a car that has only 4 gears All the other official Nascar games I ever played were pretty shit :/
there were a few nice iterations of that game, but thats ten years ago or so. if you want to race in a competetive lvl online it was very hard to find the right setup and driving without faults, its much more difficult as it looks
always like its predecessor more (indycar racing in 1993), but the 94er nascar game was decent too and indycar racing ii was fucking awesome for its time, think it came out after nascar so it must be late 94 or 95
dont know which i played a lot of the nascars, must be nascar 4 or season 2002
still a shame papyrus got shotdown, their grand prix legends game was awesome. and yes i know most those people went to another company which now makes iracing, but i dont like that

Yep, as far as I know they're still using many parts of the code that made Nascar Season 2003 so enjoyable (despite being..well Nascar ), it really says a lot about its quality, which was incredible as per Papyrus tradition. Not to mention other glorious companies like SimBin..RIP.
SMS are doing a good job, but if they really want to follow the DLC all the things route, well that's not exactly okay by me
I'm not going to knock the sport, obviously it takes skill to do it at a high level and I appreciate all that. The thing that gets me is we already have hundreds of games made about it. Every fucking year. Great, another one, thanks?
Wouldn't it be like, interesting or you know, FUCKING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE to have a racing game based on the Circus Maximus in ancient Rome? Yeah sure, it's an oval... you go straight and then turn left. BUT SET IN A DIFFERENT TIME PERIOD IN HISTORY FOR FUCKING ONCE??
Just make Ben Hur, the game, and I would actually buy that. Get a clue, "sports" games designers.

Haha yeah, Nascar is already a simplistic discipline by nature, if you leave physics out of the equation too then it truly becomes laughable.
The realistic handling with suspension physics and fairly complex damage system were the reasons why Papyrus' Nascar 2003 worked well as a game, even the smallest contact could potentially lead to the apocalypse. The other main reason was mods, I remember that the community even added LMP and GT cars as well as regular tracks, it was such a great sandbox. Those definitely were different times.
