Today in Belgium we're having a big ass national strike. When I say "we" I mean the unions mainly.
Why are we striking? Because the previous governments have succeeded in doing fuck all to fix the looming problem of the baby-boom generation retiring without having the funds needed to pay for the pensions. Instead they increased the taxes on wages for corporations with the result that many multi-nationals have moved abroad with as result more unemployment and more pressure on the social network.
So now they're striking because, god forbid, the pension age has been raised by two years and some social advantages are being curtailed - something which has already been done in every other European country. We have the lowest pension age and the highest tax costs for companies - is it a big surprise something needs to be done?
But no ... they have to strike, put even more pressure on companies and basically take the entire country hostage. Unions these days feel more like mafia than anything else ...

First it's 2 years, then after a while it's a year or two more, and so it will continue until it's so high that you're expected to die before your pension or not long after starting your golden years.

It's been known for 20 years that there would be trouble - when I was in high school there was already a lot of talking about "de vergrijzing" and that it would be a problem when the baby boom generation was growing old. Back then they already suggested that the age would need to be raised and the pensions lowered but the social party that ruled the government has been holding it off for decades meaning that the slow adjustment that was supposed to happen, never happened so now the government is forced to make a sudden shift.
Of course, this is a tactic of the social parties - they lost in the last elections (big time) so it's a smart move to make the current government unpopular so they can get better votes next time. It's disgusting really because in the end, it will cause a lot more poverty - and the social parties get most of their votes from the poorest layer of society.

Lol
Same in Bulgaria, pension age is 68years, and they want to raise it by 2 more..
I'd be happy if I manage to reach that age..
We have like 6,5 million people, of which 2 are retired and rising each year

Poor companies need to apply even more fantasy to evade the raising taxes? Poor companies. We should only tax them 1% and then they'll generate millions of jobs and everybody will be happy.
