Quote:
Directed by Andrés Muschietti (Mama) and starring Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the clown, the new take looks downright horrifying. In case you didn't read King's novel and missed the '90s mini-series with Tim Curry, here's the official synopsis: "When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries."

The original was perfect enough as it is. Stop messing around and put out The Running Man or The Long Walk! Sad

Hollywood's crusade against my beloved childhood continues and the train won't stop. Just replace the Yellow King with Pennywise, and you have the darker reboo made in Fukunaga grinhurt

I'm pretty curious to know the main actor, I wouldn't mind someone like Andy Serkis or Willem Dafoe for example, but we all know that Kellan Lutz will have the role.

The TV movie was ok but there's a LOT of room for improvement, really. I'm ok with a second attempt.

I wasn't allowed to watch the movie back then. I didn't really bother to watch it, so this might be a good opportunity for me to see it.

Yes. Poker Face That's exactly what I meant. Poker Face Saving the artistic vision of the original. Poker Face

Not deleting it from existence and then burning the world that spawned it in the first place. Poker Face

Was so scared of this as a little kid. That bathroom sink oh god... Don't look down don't look down...

But to be fair it was a cheap ass TV movie. If u watch it now u will probably not even finish the first half without falling asleep.
Its great Nostalgia stuff and all but that it is.

Would love to see a great remake

Absolutely not true. I watched it recently and it was still every bit as creepy as it always was Smile

I also watched it recently and while I didn't fall asleep it felt merely "ok" rather than "good".

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/01/27/the-two-part-movie-version-of-stephen-kings-it-will-be-more-vicious-than-the-miniseries

Quote:
In an interview with EW, producer Seth Grahame-Smith revealed that the two-part film adaptation of King's 1986 creepy-clown novel "will bring back some of the viciousness of the book that they couldn’t do with the [1990 TV] miniseries because it was for broadcast. I think it’s going to be very scary, but I also feel like you’ve got [True Detective's] Cary [Fukunaga] who is going to direct these kids -- and he’s incredible at casting, incredible at shooting. He’s incredible with tone and atmosphere. One of the things I wanted to do is be a part of one of the really good King adaptations. As we know, there is an echelon of King adaptations that are classics. There are some that are okay. There are some that we’d rather forget.”

But will the preteen gangbang scene make the cut??? http://stephenking.wikia.com/wiki/Beverly_Marsh

Quote:

When the Losers' travel into the sewer with the intent of destroying It, they momentarily find themselves hopelessly trapped. As the boys start to panic, Beverly comes up with the idea of having sex with the others in order to calm them down, as a result the other Losers take turns having sex with her. Because King didn't wish this to be viewed as a lewd scene, the narrative explicitly states that the act of intimacy with each of the boys' helps to further strengthen their friendship; and Beverly only experiences orgasm while having intercourse with Bill Denbrough and Ben Hanscom.

Yep baby gang bang.

I didnt much like to book, it was way to long and frankly dull in places, incredibly overrated.

The TV Movie was ok for a King adaptation, but thats not saying much. Move this shit to one side and adapt The Dark Tower already.

I feel the same. The only scene I really liked was with the bathroom sink. Everything else is pretty dated, even Pennywise. And it's waaaay too long.

I get that you don't want to spend too much money on make up artists since the kid already looks like Pennywise by default, but think of the children! With those acting "skills", it will be the scariest Pennywise ever for all the wrongest reasons.

Fukunaga is out. http://www.thewrap.com/cary-fukunaga-out-as-director-of-stephen-kings-it-at-new-line-exclusive/

Insiders say New Line was pushing for a cheaper and more commercial movie that what Fukunaga had in mind.

I see this ending up in development hell. Oh well.

This.

Despite some of the casting choices, with fuku-san at the helm at least you knew this might somehow all work out in the end Neutral

Haha, what a trainwreck. But maybe it's for the best. Razz Laughing

At this point it would be logical to just call it a day and pretend that the idea never happened in the first place. Sadly though I can see someone like Michael Bay spotting some potential in this, with his personal reboot, ruining childhood memories one explosion at a time as per tradition xD

DEAD

Quote:
With Cary Fukunaga's departure from the film adaptation of Stephen King's "It" over the holiday weekend, fans were still holding out slim hope that the film (or rather, films) might still carry forward. That hope is now gone as The Wrap has confirmed that the project has been pushed indefinitely.

The site goes into detail about the fallout. "It" was originally set up at Warner Bros. before moving to its New Line branch in recent weeks and with that move came budget cuts despite having greenlit the first film at $30 million.

Fukunaga expressing a strong desire to film in New York, something the studio didn't want. The poor showing this past weekend for the "Poltergeist" remake, which featured a clown in its marketing materials, also did not help. Neither has the poor track record of films starring children that are marketed to an adult audience.

With production a month off, Fukunaga's recent drafts were coming in over-budget but New Line maintained a hard financial line. According to the site, that tight budget was the main reason Ben Mendelsohn opted out of playing Pennywise because the studio wanted him to take a sizable pay cut.

Fukunaga on why he left: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/09/03/warner-bros-wants-an-inoffensive-version-of-stephen-kings-it

Quote:
“I was trying to make an unconventional horror film,” Fukunaga told Variety. “It didn’t fit into the algorithm of what they knew they could spend and make money back on based on not offending their standard genre audience. Our budget was perfectly fine. We were always hovering at the $32 million mark, which was their budget. It was the creative that we were really battling. It was two movies. They didn’t care about that. In the first movie, what I was trying to do was an elevated horror film with actual characters. They didn’t want any characters. They wanted archetypes and scares. I wrote the script. They wanted me to make a much more inoffensive, conventional script. But I don’t think you can do proper Stephen King and make it inoffensive.”

[...]

It was being rejected. Every little thing was being rejected and asked for changes. Our conversations weren’t dramatic. It was just quietly acrimonious. We didn’t want to make the same movie.

It seems there's a new script being developed with director Andrés Muschietti on board who has made exactly one movie: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mama_2013/
